RBR850 Dropping Internet Connectivity

Recently (last few weeks) my RBR850 w/3 RBS850s would drop internet connectivity from my fiber modem (Orbi is the router).  What's weird is my Fire Sticks and Alexa's continue to stream, but phones, computers (connected either wired or wireless) or anything else (cameras, etc.) show no internet.  Looking at the Orbi app on iOS it shows no internet from the modem with the RBR850 being red and the satellites being green.  I had firmware 7.2.6.31 when I noticed the issues, downgraded to 7.2.6.21 and turned off the auto-update feature.  Re-initialized the whole system from scratch and I have performed hard/factory reset, rebooted the Orbis and swapped internet source from fiber to Starlink (to verify if it's the modem).  It seemed to work for about a week, and then it started again.  Dropping internet will last anywhere from 3-15 minutes and then restore itself.  I'm at my wits-end.  Maybe the RBR850 going bad?

  • Thanks for your help!  I reverted the FW back to v.21 on all units (RBR and RBS), did a reset and set up the entire system again.  Ensured the "disable" radio button is selected for AU (and yes, my memory was a bit 'off') and everything is back to normal, like it should!  Thank you again for your help.  One question though, why would Netgear release a FW upgrade without conducting a Beta test to work out the bugs?  Seems to me a lot of people might 'dump' Netgear and go to another system because of the issues they were having that could have been avoided.  I almost did!

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

Interesting note (I'm away from home at the moment and checked via anywhere access), somehow the firmware recently updated itself to 7.2.6.31 even though I have the auto-update function turned off.  Not sure why or when...maybe since yesterday?

Is the front LED on the RBR turning PINK when this happens?  No...it is Off like in normal operation

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF? Have not tried that....I will
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices? Yes.  Wired devices are attached to 2 different RBSs
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?  They are set on "auto".  I will have to look to what they are actually set to when I get home.

Do you have or did you use Orbi app by chance?

Something to check before and after, check to see if the WAN port uptime has reset or continues normally on the RBRs web page under Advanced tab/Show stats. Then also check the system uptime for any changes or differences on the RBRs debug page at routerIPAddress/debug.htm.
