Hi @don_daniel,
Let us isolate the problem. Kindly answer the questions below:
a. Are you still able to get replies when you ping the IP address of your SRX5308?
b. Is the SRX5308 still working fine?
c. Have you tried to reboot the SRX5308 then try again to access its web-GUI?
d. Have you tried using other web browsers like Firefox or Internet Explorer? If not yet, kindly try it.
e. Are there any recent changes you have made on the settings of the SRX5308 or changes on the settings of the PC/laptop you are using such installing a new software?
f. Have you tried using other PC/laptops to isolate the problem? If not yet, kindly try it.
I found these articles below. Kindly read and it might help:

Hi
Have meanwhile found the source of the issue.. I am using bitdefender security and apparantly there is a SSL WEB check that is preventing me from accessing 'unsecure' https sites.. it did work before (I only got warning messages), but it seems with one of the latest updates bitdefender introduced something that is blocking all of such sites...
right now, I have deactivated that check when I access my router and have contacted bitdefender for a statement.
next to that: is there a way that netgear is providing a certificate that is seen as trusted so https accesses are accepted as ssl-secured???

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to know that you have figured out the source of the issue.

NETGEAR does not provide certificates. Certificates are purchased from a 3rd party certificate provider. I'm not familiar with BitDefender, however, I believe that there is an option in BitDefender to allow (or rather create a rule) to access the web-GUI of the SRX5308.
Be reminded that the NETGEAR VPN FIrewall Routers which includes the SRX5308 are already EOL (End-of-Life) which means this product line has been discontinued and there will be no future firmware releases or bug fixes.

The error message ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR error indicates that the browser is not able to initiate the secured communication at the moment. It's almost impossible to pin it down to a single cause, it could be almost anything. There is no definite guide for managing this error. However, there are few changes or settings which help you to get rid you of this error.
Configure Correct Date and Time
Clear Browsing Data
Clear Your SSL State
Disable QUIC Protocol of Chrome
Disable your Internet Browser Extensions
Adjust Your Internet Security and Privacy Level
Remove your system's hosts file
Check Your Antivirus Settings
Check Your Firewall
