Constant SRX5308 Issues

First of all, we seem to have a unit with a dodgy WAN 1 port; if you connect anything and touch the cable (the lightest touch) it breaks the connection. So effectively we have a 3-port load-balancer,

Secondly, I'm running firmware v4.3.0-19 and have had nothing but constant problems:

VPN passthrough only works on one of our connections, even though it's configured in exactly the same way as the other two.

Connections drop regularly and then fail to re-establish. If I power cycle the modem, the same thing occurs. If I (eventually) reboot the SRX5308 it all works again first time.

Is this normal?! If not, what the hell can I do to get this thing running stably? I didn't expect to buy Netgear's "Flagship VPN Router" only for it to be falling over every day or so.

  • Hello.
You may try to downgrade the firmware - I use 3.0.8-12 with my SRX5308.
None of the 4.x worked properly with my device.
Do not forget to document your network settings, since you cannot restore them going from firmware 4 to 3.
  • I think that's about all I'm left with unfortunately. Just a shame that Netgear can't seem to fix outstanding issues without completely destroying the routers usability. :(
  • I have different stability issues with in inbound ssh tunnels. Soon after upgrading firmware when I got it from store it worked for couple of days. Now reboots do not help. I have another Cisco router with different static ip from same ISP and no problems. Netgear on other hand can connect to and after random time hick up or drops connection.. Any ideas?
