FVS318G v2 Basic Setup Question
My ISP upgraded/switched me from a cable modem to a Gateway. Now I can't use the FVS318 WAN port and FW, I have to use a LAN port essentially turning the firewall into an expensive switch. + I ma...

Well I've decided to send the FVS318G back and use the Gateway firewall.
The gatway is supplied by the ISP so if and when I forgo the retal fee and buy my own gateway/modem I may be right back here where I started.
Till then...
Thx!

The Gateway is in bridge mode; network is up; I have access to the internet; but....
I can't access the FVS318 GUI/Web page 192.168.1.1. I also can't acces the Gateway GUI/Web page 10.0.0.1. When I make a couple attempts I loose the internet connection as if somthing times out and drops the connection entirely.
And the only way I can get the gateway and FVS318 to talk is to turn on the FVS first and let is assign IP's to all the network devices then turn on the Gateway; wait 15-20 minutes then the internet connection is back.
Frustrating; this FW should be plug and play as a simple router.

OK I stand corrected. GUI/web pages are now accessible for both the Gateway, and FVS318 FW. I'm not used to modems and routers taking so long to do their thing. :(

Hi OldPCGuy,
I am glad that you are now able to access the web-GUI of both of your gateway and the FVS318Gv2. :) Hope that the internet connection is working fine.

NETGEAR Community Team- OldPCGuyFeb 14, 2016AspirantDown again. :( :( ... two wasted weekends on this thing! I disconnected he FVS318 to re-route some Ethernet cables and it would not come back up no matter what re-start order I tried. The best I could do is ping netgear.com from the GUI. No internet, no gateway GUI. Why won't the FVS318Gv2 connect to the Technicolor TC8717C in bridge mode? I have a GS108Ev3 (8 port switch) and it works with the gateway in non-bridge mode.
- DaneAFeb 15, 2016NETGEAR Employee RetiredHi OldPCGuy,Kindly try this steps:a. While the Technicolor TC8717C is set up on bridge mode, connect a PC directly to it and make sure there is internet access. Again, you may use this article as a guide.b. When internet access is verified, go to the LAN Settngs of the PC. Record or write down the IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS it acquired.c. While the Technicolor TC8717C is set up on bridge mode, connect it to the WAN port of the FVS318Gv2.d. On the web-GUI of the FVS318Gv2, go to Network Configuration > WAN Settings > Broadband ISP Settings. On the Internet IP Address section, select "Use Static IP Address" then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway you have listed. On the DNS Servers section, select "Use These DNS Servers" then enter the DNS servers you have listed.e. Click Apply. Check if you will have internet access. You might need to reboot both the Technicolor TC8717C and FVS318Gv2.Hope it helps.Regards,DaneANETGEAR Community Team
