FVS318Gv2: TCP: too many of orphaned sockets and question with IP/MAC Binding

Hi there,

yesterday I configured my new FVS318Gv2 and I have 2 questions.

1. In the log I see a lot of "TCP: too many of orphaned sockets" messages which I think is not a good thing.

Together with it, some other entries are like this:

Tue Apr 4 00:18:08 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] HTB: quantum of class 11024 is big. Consider r2q change. oo many of orphaned sockets
Tue Apr 4 00:18:08 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] HTB: quantum of class 10001 is big. Consider r2q change.
Tue Apr 4 00:17:38 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] HTB: quantum of class 11024 is big. Consider r2q change. oo many of orphaned sockets
Tue Apr 4 00:17:38 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] HTB: quantum of class 10001 is big. Consider r2q change.
Mon Apr 3 21:11:53 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] xt_TCPMSS: bad length (589 bytes) <6
Mon Apr 3 14:17:42 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] TCP: too many of orphaned sockets <6
Mon Apr 3 14:17:42 2017(GMT+0100) [FVS318Gv2][Kernel][KERNEL] TCP: too many of orphaned sockets

My question is: why?

2. The other thing is, I configured IP/Mac binding which is working for the ethernet connection only, not for the WiFi connection. Why is that? I don't understand it.

First of all my configuration:

I have DHCP enabled with a range from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254-

Mac filtering is enabled with (at this time) 4 addresse, which are:

- WiFi acces point

- iPhone

- Macbook WiFi

- Macbook Ethernet

Then I configured IP/Mac binding.

I would love to hear your ideas, I just there is a misconfiguration on my side somewhere.

Thank you.

Greetings

Robert

  • Hi,

so I finally moved to a new flat, I solved my second problem (IP/Mac binding) which was a misconfiguration I did. I missed an information in the manual. So now this part works like expected.

But I still have a lot of "too many of orphaned sockets" entries in the log file and I don't know how to get rid of them. Do you have any ideas?

    Thank you,

    Robert

    Hi djqkat,

    Kindly answer the questions below:

    a. How is everything connected?  It would be best if you will post a diagram of your current network setup.

    b. Have you tried to reset the FVS318Gv2 back to factory default settings then reconfigure it from scratch and check if same logs will appear?

    c. What is the current firmware version of the FVS318Gv2?

    Regards,

        Hi DaneA,

I think you should get my image with this link: https://ibb.co/g5gYtF

Oh and of course the Fritzbox is connected via the WAN-Port to the FVS318Gv2.

        Greetings,

        Robert

      djqkat,

      Thanks for the update.

Since you have already upgrade the firmware to the latest version 4.3.5-3 and already tried to factory reset the FVS318Gv2 but still the same logs appear, it would be best that you open a chat / online case with NETGEAR Support for further assistance.  Kindly submit a copy of the logs you encountered on the FVS318Gv2 via the chat / online case and this will be forwarded to our engineering team for it to be analyzed.

      Regards,
