About having problems accessing the network printer on a computer via wireless connection, kindly answer the questions below:
a. To isolate the problem, have you tried to connect both network printer and computer directly to the FVS318G then check if you will be able to gain access to the network printer on the computer?
b. Since the computer is wirelessly connected to your existing network, is it within the same IP range as the local are network of the FVS318G? Kindly check the computer's wireless IP address if its the same IP range with the network printer.
c. Have you tried using other computer to isolate the problem in accessing the network printer wirelessly?
d. Since you have a wireless network, are you using a NETGEAR access point? If yes, what is the model number of it?
About remote desktop from outside the network, the Remote Desktop port which is port 3389 should be open pointing to the LAN IP Address of the PC you want to access from outside your network. Be sure that the FVS318G is set as the main router wherein the WAN IP Address should be a Public IP address registered on the FVS318G. Kindly follow the steps below:
1. On the web-GUI of the FVS318G, go to Security > Services.
2. On the section of Add Custom Service, enter the following:
Name: Remote Desktop
Type: TCP
Start Port: 3389
Finish Port: 3389
3. Click Add.
4. Still on the web-GUI of the FVS318G, go to Security > Firewall > LAN WAN Rules.
5. On the section of Inbound Services, click Add
6. On the Add LAN WAN Inbound Service, indicate the following:
Service: select the name Remote Desktop that you've created in Services
Action: Allow Always
Send to LAN Server: select Single Address or Address range to apply the rule to a single device or to a range of devices respectively.
Start / Finish: fill-up these fields with the appropriate LAN IP address/es that you wish to remote access.
7. Click Apply.
To double-check if the Remote Desktop port 3389 is opened, access this online port scanner here and do the following:
1. On the "Enter IP or host to scan" field, this is autmatically filled-up with the WAN IP Address. Take note that the WAN IP Address should be a Public IP Address and it should be registered to the FVS318G.
2. On the "Enter Port to scan" field, type 3389.
3. Check the box that says "By selecting this option you confirm that you agree to the "Terms of use" below"
4. Click on Scan Port. If it shows "online/reachable!" then it means that port 3389 is open and you should be able to do remote desktop from outside your network.

Hi, no I have not had a chance to try your suggestions. As I stated in my initial post. I am very busy and really do not have any networking experience only computer experience (software and hardware). I decided to roll everything back to the Century Link modem and just continue with the original settings until I can get someone with networking experience to come on site to help with setting up the Netgear equipment. I will print your response and keep it to reference when I try to make this switch again.

Hi, I purchased a new router per the suggestion of an outside source who I was going to have help with the installation of the FVS318G. When I was ready to install the Nighthawk X8, the source increased the time and cost of doing the install. Therefore, I installed the Nighthawk myself and was able to get it setup. Please see my new post regarding the Nighthawk X8.
