Oh dear - sorry everyone, I didn't spot there was an Orbi forum.
Basically Plemans exactly that - I can see I can add an 'iot' vlan profile to the lan port- but I thought that added some rules about what could and couldn't connect, rather than identify the wifi network it's going to use.
I'm really not sure how clear I'm being - so apologies in advance. Maybe I should just have a better play in the menus.

Like many direct App controlled IoT the mobile phone with the Hue App and the Hue gateway must be on the very same network (same VLAN, same IP subnetwork, ...). Putting it to another network (different VLAN, different SSID) is somehow prohibiting, unless you prefer to change the wireless network for switching or controlling your Hue lamps, LED stripes, ..

Thank you for the encouragement, I managed to do this with the profiles as suggested, weirdly I've somehow made it think that two devices that are definitely connected wirelessly, are 'wired' but still, maybe that's for another day.
