Constant intermittent connection - specifically with the PS5.

Hi, just upgraded from Nighthawk to Orbi.

Nighthawk system with extender was ok but it kept resetting to old password and couldn’t ever work out why.

New system was set up and for a few days it was unbelievably quick and was so good. Now some of the family say it amazing when working but sometimes it just cuts out and stops working. More recently the boys have said the ps5 is lagging and cutting out/kicking them out of games which didn’t happen before.

Help!

Have you tried disabling Netgear Armor? I had to disable it with my 970 as Armor was seeing some devices as a threat and not allowing a connection. The PS5 was one of the devices it would happen with, but now with Armor disabled, it will stay connected all day long.

What Orbi model # do you have?

    FIrmware loaded on it?

Is the PS console connected to the RBS or the RBR?

Is the PS wireless or ethernet connected? Ethernet is recommended to the RBR.

    How many RBS are deployed?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Is IPv6 enabled on the RBR?

Using ISP detected DNS or custom DNS?

FYI I am from the UK.

What Orbi model # do you have?

      Orbi 970 with a satellite (RBE971 and RBE 970)

      FIrmware loaded on it?

      Both 9.13.2.1

Is the PS console connected to the RBS or the RBR?

So how can I work this out? Also I took the advice of a previous device and added the IoT network and the ps5 is connected to that - nothing else.

Is the PS wireless or ethernet connected?

      Wireless

Ethernet is recommended to the RBR.

Assume RBR means the main router?

      How many RBS are deployed?

      1

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

      I think 2,300 roughly (5 bed house)

What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

      🛰

So it’s close to that around 10 meters one side of the house to the other. FYI ps5 is the middle of the two.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

So I don’t really know what you mean? It’s Virgin Media is the ISP. Their router is called the HUB 5. I turned it modem only so I could use Orbi. Does that help?

Is IPv6 enabled on the RBR?

      How do I check?

Using ISP detected DNS or custom DNS?

      Not a clue 😂 - how do I check?

Sorry - I am a little technical but not 100% like you above - thanks in advance 🙏🏽

  • To set up a BQM, use ThinkBroadband, but you will have to enable "respond to ping on internet port," which you will find in the advanced tab, then setup, WAN setup. The blue highlighted box with a white tick means enabled in your 970 web UI before you set up a BQM.

To check power levels on the Hub 5, go to the Hub 5 web UI. On the login screen, at the bottom of the page, click on "check router status." It should give you all the information there, like power levels, SNR, and all Hub 5 stats. If you screenshot all tabs on that and PM me the screenshots, I will have a look for you.

  • JJG1992 FURRYe38 Hello guys! Just come back from a short break.

The MAIN issue was the Amour protection - after turning this off 99% perfect. I moved the units and also used a main power socket rather than a extension. The BQM showed a pretty good picture also. The boys made zero complaints about the ps5 also.

Thanks so much guys - a simple fix in the end but i also managed to look at a number of things and open my eyes!
