Installation of WAX610

Hi ,

I  am looking for some help to install WAX610 AP as AP local. The unit is not recognised by PfSense .

The only way that I can try to install is through 192.168.0.100 Zero day?

The reason for doing it this way is PFS is not picking the AP in DHCP leases ?

However, when I change DHCP Client IP address from the

Default 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.55.xxx

 IP Sub Mask 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.55.1

DNS Server 192.168.55.1

I receive an error that my gateway is unreachable and I have no access to the internet. The gateway on the PFS router is 192.168.0.1 , Lan gateway is 192.168.55.1

Any advice would be appreciate, as I have been trying for the last few days.

The WAX610 does certainly pick up an IP config from the DHCP server active on the network, for example for the 192.168.55.0/24 subnet. And yes, out of the box the switch does not know about a management VLAN ID, unless configured before.

The default IP address as described in the Insight Managed WiFi 6 AX1800 Dual Band Access Point Models WAX610 and WAX610Y User Manual on p.48 ff. undert the Chapter "Configure indoor model WAX610 offline using a directly connected computer".

Whichever is the VLAN and IP subnet you connect the WAX610 to .... the WAX does check the availability of the default gateway address on the network in question.

Thanks for the reply , i was able to install the WAX610 , however i  have an error on the management side  , so  I am unable to make contact with the AP  as it disconnects. from the internet.

Any idea if this is Netgear related or PFsense , as they believe it is related to Netgear. I also noticed that there are many failures in the logs. I have the file if you can help.

I appreciated any help and guidance to fix the issue.

Appears you have some kind of a Web UI management connection to the WAX610, through what your security appliance is designating as LAN by default, on the 192.168.55.1/24 (wild guess) IP subnet, using a static 192.168.55.55 IP address.

Knowing nothing about your environment and configuration, however we can assure you that a pfSense can (out of the box or in it's default config state) handle an interface, here designated by default as LAN, allowing to connect a random computer (like the WAX610 for example with the default config. or fpr the sake for testing a PC), getting an IP config assigned, and beeing able to ping the default gateway for this LAN security zone and IP subnet, and reach the Internet via this new security appliance.

Before connecting more infrastructure like additonal switches or wireless access points, make the first steps and collect more experience with a computer or PC connected to this LAN port.

There is nothing difficult, please understand such security appliances need some longer learning curve than the average home network consumer gateway. a learning curve we can't take away from you. Said this: You can always go back and keep things simple, and connect the WAX610 direct to the router making up the gateway on 192.168.0.x/24 for this pfSense installation - and everything, including the built-in basic monotoring for the Internet connection on the WAX610 does work as intended. Essentially, the same applies to an out-of-the-box install of a pfSense as a read-to-use appliance, or based on whatever platform using Netgate's pfSense Community Edition.
