Yes. It gives any Netgear engineer web access to this device. Also allows monitoring of network traffic. God only knows what else.

This is an area where commodity is weighted higher than whatever security policies on these Essential Wireless Access Point models.
Again no, Netgear does not have your device local admin password - it's coming from the device itself after answering the hopefully well-thought recovery questions.
It's a moot point as corporate has directed I remove the device because transmitting IT activity to outside entities is a violation of our security policy. This device was deemed incompatible with the sarbanes oxley act.
