WAX204 - Can't Setup E-mail Alerts

I have a WAX204 that I have been having issues with, and support would like me to send them the logs from the device.  However, I have not been able to get e-mail alerts set up successfully.  I am trying to use an msn.com e-mail account.  As far as I can tell I am entering the information correctly.  This is how I am filling in the fields.

- Send to This E-mail Address: ...............@msn.com

- Your Outgoing Mail Sever:  stmp-mail.outlook.com

- Outgoing Mail Server Port Number:  587

- My Mail Server Requires Authentication:  Checked

- User Name:  my e-mail address

- Password:  my e-mail password

What am I doing wrong?

  • No a Netgear issue, much more modern email environments like Gmail.

It's no longer possible to use the classic password (doing the basic Auth) for sending SMTP email. Much more you must configure the so-called App passwords, but not before having enabled 2FA - another requirement by Gmail.

  • I also just tried using a gmail account as follows, with no success:

    - Send to This E-mail Address: ...............@gmail.com

    - Your Outgoing Mail Sever:  smtp.gmail.com

    - Outgoing Mail Server Port Number:  587 (I also tried 465)

    - My Mail Server Requires Authentication:  Checked

    - User Name:  my e-mail address

    - Password:  my e-mail password
