netgear insight cloud switch
I'm trying to be able to get insight cloud to connect to my devices over the internet. All i found was this https://kb.netgear.com/000062467/Which-domains-and-ports-should-I-open-on-my-firewall-for...

I can only assume this means that insight is unable to reach my managed switch over the internet.
The insight cloud does never establish a connection over port forwarding.
Possible reason the Insight Cloud control can't talk to the switch is because the switch failed to establish a connection -to- the Internet and the cloud. To much things blocked on your firewall outgoing?
All this works very similar to MyQNAPcloud you are used to.
The local admin password pushed from the cloud is for the local device login from your LAN, rarely required.

Insight devices use https (TLS) to work with cloud.
are you able to ping insight.netgear.com from the VLAN where the devices are.
another common issue with devices unable to come online :
NTP is blocked. for https to work, the device should have correct time.
you can check if the time is correct from the local UI.
Incase switch got connected to insight even once, remember the local UI will get the password set from Insight.
(same as networl/location password)

i pinged using windows 11 cmd from desktop pc
ping insight.netgear.com
Ping statistics for .....
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 13ms, Average = 12ms
so i think it can ping, at least when i do so from my side.
my pfsense router has port stealth and don't respond to pings from the outside to my network firewall. could that possibly be why?

i am able to login to android insight to detect the managed switch on the lan to add it to my netgear network location (within insight).
After that point it says waiting for first time cloud sign in.
Then in insight i click the device, and it shows communication error.
I can only assume this means that insight is unable to reach my managed switch over the internet.
This is why i thought it was a portforwarding issue. So i tried doing so for pfsense to add port forward rule for nat to allow 443 https. rebooted router, then tested but didn't work.
so now i can only suspect it's because it's because pfsense is setup not to respond to pings from the outside? that's all i can think of right now.

I only tried myqnapcloud but never really used it for production. not really into that due to concerns xd.
i'm just trying out insight to see how that works out of curiosity. I'm just stumped as to why it didn't work.
So no port forwarding required? hm....
I'll bring out a clean setup (an unused router. An off the shelf Asus AC68U, this should be a standard simple piece of gear with less complex settings off the bat) and see if that will work from a clean slate. Because my pfsense has too many settings configured, maybe something is interesting. I'll see if that helps.
Anyway thanks.
