M4250-26G4F-PoE+ showing fiber ports as SFP instead of SFP+
Firmware Version
13.0.4.23
AV UI Version
2.2.7.36
Boot Version
1.0.0.12
Hello, everywhere I check the specs for this switch, it indicates that the 4 fiber ports are 10G SFP+
When I received the switch, I did a factory reset, upgraded the firmware to 13.0.4.23 and then configured it.
When I sign in and look at the overview page, I expect to see S+ on the fiber ports, however, the ports only show S (for 1G SFP) and the legend does not show and S+ like my other M4250 (40G8F).
This switch is not connecting to any other switch via SFP (no link lights), although if I do a loopback between 2 SFP ports, I get link lights.
Looking at the port configuration on my other M4250, it shows 10G for the port speed, but the M4250-26G4F does not allow it to be set higher than 1000.

- Hello, this switch has 4 x 1G SFP ports, please check the datasheet here?

With the latest firmware, only 1G transceivers can be used. Did you use 10G transceivers before? I am afraid it was wrongly showing 10G speed, but actual speeds were 1G only, as the ports are 1G.
You can use the XF models (SKU numbers with a "X" at the end for 10G uplinks (SFP+)
Please let us know!

Wow totally missed that, and thanks for the quick reply!
I assumed that the switches would Auto negotiate 1G... but it appears that my M4250-40G8XF have the port configuration speed set to 10G and can't be changed to Auto or 1G
So does the M4250-40G8XF can only accept 10G, and the M4250-264F can only accept 1G?
thank you,
Denny
- LaurentMaNETGEAR ExpertHi Denny,
No worries, let me tell you:
The M4250-40G8XF can accept 10G transceivers and 1G transceivers. It will detect the speed of the transceiver and automatically do 10G or 1G.
The M4250-26G4F can only accept 1G transceivers, and it won't be able to use 10G transceivers.
10G SFP+ ports accept 1G and 10G transceivers, and the speed is negotiated accordingly.
1G SFP ports accept 1G transceivers only.
I hope it helps!- dvandemaeleAspirant
Yes, all good, thank you.
