Formally supported (of course by Netgear) are modules and DAC in the M4250 Series as listed on the datasheets. On anything else, you are on your own.

These look like usual after hot plugging modules.

Whatever these are. Manufacturer names, product designation, ... 

And no:

• Netgear does not enforce using "proprietary" modules on any of these M4250, M4300, M4350, M4500... switch models.

• You don't have to operate the same modules on either end!

The compatibility (resp. workability) must fit the requirements respective switch on either end.

Essential is using the correct fiber type (single mode SM standard is 9/125µm) resp multimode MM fiber like OM4/OM3 50/125µm and OM2/OM1 62.5/125µm), the same "inner" core diameter (the smaller number on the left); the same colour rep. frequency of the sender and receivers.

De-facto standard on MM is 850 nm, a common one for SM is 1310 nm - but there can be many different ones. Very expensive SM carrier grade modules and switches can be tuned (! - Netgear does not have these....). 

Modules for MM can't work on SM fiber, modules for SM can't work for MM fibers.

The fibers are known working, tested, the connectors on either end have been cleaned properly?

If everything's the same on either end of the fiber link: Have already swapped TX and RX on one end?
