Orbi vs Orbi Pro firmware
What are the major differences in Orbi Pro firmware compared to the original Orbi system? Will the web portal look familiar? Would it be the same Orbi/Netgear Genie app for consumers, or would a separate one be required?
A separate question: how do the security features differ on Orbi vs. Orbi Pro? For example, using a VPN, establishing a real firewall, or controlling the pace of firmware updates?
we are trying to make every effort to keep Orbi desktop and Orbi Pro as consistent as possible. In the cases where there are differences between the two, the direction has been to follow the consistency path while designing the additional feature as close as possible to the Orbi desktop to avoid any confusion for our users who own both Orbi desktop and Orbi Pro.

About VPN, you will be able to set up a client-to-box VPN with the Orbi Pro. You will need to install an OpenVPN software to your computer. Kindly read pages 98-107 of the Orbi Pro user manual here about VPN.
About the firmware, you can use the web-GUI of the Orbi Pro to check there is a new firmware available to update the Orbi Pro router and Orbi Pro satellite. Kindly read pages 76-78 of the Orbi Pro user manual here about Orbi Pro router & satellite firmware.
Furthermore, new features are supported by the Orbi Pro:
1. Default AP mode - Unlike the Orbi Home Routers, the Orbi Pro router will be set to the “Access Point Mode” even if an existing router is
detected or not. You can set the Orbi Pro router on "Router Mode" manually. The following functions are supported when the Orbi Pro router is set to Router Mode:• Access control
• Traffic meter
• Block sites
• Block service
• Static route
• Port forwarding
• Port triggering
• IPv6
• UPnP
• Remote management
• VPN Service2. Multiple SSIDs - The Orbi Pro supports three isolated wireless networks. The devices on different SSIDs cannot communicate with each other. This feature is available on both Router Mode and AP mode.
