SXR30 and orbilogin.com
Hi, I am hoping someone can shed some light on an issue I had yesterday when trying to login to my Orbi. I had some internet issues and wanted to check the config had not reset itself as I have had...
Thanks - It is connected to a Truespeed Fibre box (My ISP), I did try the IP address and it is different to the default, so no clashes etc.. I get a DHCP address rom the Orbi - so I know the contig was OK, and the fact it worked from Safari led me to thin it was a security setting in Chrome and Edge
Might try resetting defaults in Chrome and Edge in there settings and see if this helps any.
I haven't had my 30 series on in a while and haven't had since I got 11 installed in '23. I guess I should check on it.
The forum has numerous posts from users about web browsers giving WARNING messages about the Orbi web interface:
- An http connection warns, "Insecure". This is because http is not encrypted, so anyone who can capture the data packets can read everything in them. Never mind that it is physically impossible to capture packets between the Orbi router and a computer connected directly to it. The solution is to tell the browser, "Go to this site anyway and quit pestering me." Alas, it appears that some of the latest versions of some browsers simply will not open the site
- An https connection is encrypted, but when Netgear was forced to give up their official SSL certificate for orbilogin.com, orbilogin.net, routerlogin.com, routerlogin.net, etc. they included a Self-Signed SSL certificate on the browser. BUT.... these browsers do not trust Self-Signed SSL certificates. WARNING.. UNSAFE.. Never mind that the user knows exactly which web server is being accessed. "Hey. It's in my house and I'm connected directly to it!" It's Self-Signed, ergo it is unsafe. Once again, if the browser will not accept the directive, "Go to this site anyway and quit pestering me", then the only solution isi to use a different browser.
Chrome is the root of this issue (Edge is built on Chrome). I have found Firefox and Opera have no problem doing what they're told to do.
