SXR80 / SXS80 (V4.3.3.200) - Problems with IP Address Reservation and/or VLAN / Bridge Settings?
Hi, I have two Synology NAS connected to a SXS80 satellite (V4.3.3.200), with three reserved IP addresses, and two LAGs.
NAS 1 is connected via USB to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and to NAS 2 via SMB (three mounted volumes). NAS 1 is also configured as a "network UPS server".
NAS 2 is connected to the same UPS, wirelessly, using the NAS 1 network UPS server IP (reserved IP configured using Orbi Pro), and to NAS 1 via SMB (two mounted volumes).
This setup is working fine most of the time, but a few months ago I started noticing that the SMB connections between the two NAS sometimes became unresponsive (the folders/volumes remained "mounted", but inaccessible). At the same time, NAS 2 also started reporting that the connection to the network UPS server had been lost.
It has taken me several months to figure out what is causing this, and now I am fairly confident that there is an intermittent problem/bug with the IP address reservation on Orbi Pro, and/or possibly the VLAN/bridge (LAG) settings.
Remounting the SMB folders on the NAS does not help. Resetting SMB settings on the NAS does not help. Re-configuring the network UPS server on the NAS does not help. The only way to fix the problem once it has occurred is to reboot the Orbi Pro router/satellites. Doing this will immediately solve the issue, and the SMB folders will become responsive again, as will the network UPS server.
A few weeks ago this issue happened right before a power cut, which led to NAS 2 loosing power whilst writing data (which damaged a drive). I have also experienced problems with moving big data sets between NAS 1 - NAS 2, where the transfer is suddenly interrupted due to SMB becoming unresponsive (which again, seems to be directly related to the IP address reservation/LAG configuration on Orbi Pro).
Any tips/advice on how to solve this would be really appreciated. Attaching an image to show the LAG configuration for your reference.

Would removing the IP address reservation from the SXR and setting a STATIC IP address configuration ON the NAS themselves help with this?
Static IPs need to be outside of the default SXR DCHP IP address pool so you'd need to re-side the DHCP IP address range:- orbi-LAN-issuesAspirant
Thanks for the advice. Now that you mention it, that might be an easy way of fixing the problem. One of the NAS is busy with data scrubbing at the moment, but once done I will give this a go and see if it helps. If you happen to think of anything else please don't hesitate to share
