SXR80 with GS308E - Connect SXS80 directly to SXR80 or vial port on switch in VLAN set up

SXR80 + SXS80 + two SXS30 sats all running fine via wired backhaul. We have several switches

MODEM

SXR80 (patch cabled to switch in closet)

GS308E (patch cable to all wired locations - Sound booth, office, library, youth room)

Locations

Sound booth - 2 pcs, IP camera, SXS80 all connected to GS308E in closet via GS308EP in booth

Library - SXS30 sat via ethernet to closet

Youth Room - SXS30 sat via ethernet

So all is working well and now we are ready to continue setting up VLANs

But the question is one of best practice in using the hardware.in the sound booth

Should we have SXR80-SXS80-GS308E (Orbi  via ethernet ahead of the booth router) or

Should we have SXR80 - GS308E - SXS80 --- ie one port on the Router to the switch or one port on the router to the switch AND one port on the router to the satellite?

Yes, we can experiment but I'm sure some of you already have in a small business environment (staff VLAN, guest VLAN, IoT VLAN) with a mixed wifi/wired environment and I'd be grateful for your wise and experience advice 😉 Thanks!

SXR80-SXS80-GS308E is best. This model switch may cause problems between the SXS and the SXR.

If you need a switch behind the SXR, then a GS308 series switch, with out the (E) in the model# would be recommended.

If you need the GS308E to do some VLAN tagging, you could connect the GS308E behind the SXR, then also connect a GS308 (Non E) version behind the SXR and ethernet connect the SXS to this switch here.

Thanks!... This rookie mind needs to digest that and I'm leaving for a day and a half... I'm sure I'll be back with a follow up question 😉 or two or three. Appreciate the heads up.

Sounds good. Try not to over think it. Just make it simple as possible. I've found that non managed/smart switches work best for ethernet connected Orbi systems.
