How can I SECURELY change my admin pw for r7000 router
I want to change my admin pw and therefore have to go to Netgear's site (I understand the admin name itself cannot be changed). A dialogue box pops up for user/pw, but with warning that the site is not private, and indeed one then sees only http, not https. Does Netgear really expect me to give my user/pw over an unencrypted channel???? How can I change my pw securely? Am I missing something, or does Netgear not care about security in this day and age?

Yeah, it's too bad that Netgear hasn't provided https support for logging into the router.
Disconnect the router from everything except one computer connected via Ethernet. Then change the password. This is the best you can do.

To change PW, you go to Netgear site??? You do whatever you want with your own router. Are you using Genie?

that "netgear site" is actually a domain that points to your router, so you won't have to type 192.168.1.1

Like microchip8 said, there is no "Netgear site" involved in this.
What you are doing is using a short cut that, as microchip8 said, bypasses the need to type stuff like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into your browser. (Netgear has used both in the past.)
Those are addresses for the router on your local network. They'll work even if you unplug the Internet.
Using www.routerlogin.net just makes it easier.
The manual explains how to do what you want. Get it here:

Look on page 147.
Oh, and do not confuse the router's password with the wifi passwords. They are not the same thing.
