R4500 Parental Controls Not Blocking - Help My Kids Are Exposed

HELP PLEASE.

 

Just unpacked my brand new NetGear N900 R4500 FW V1.0.0.4_1.0.3. Purchased from Amazon last week, Works great, but can't get parental controls to work. NetGenie and Genie App, both indicated Parental Controls enabled at High, but nothing gets blocked. Tried checking and changing the DNS figures, as mentioned in this community, but nothing works. Also tried reseting and checking for firmware updates, but same result. Tried starting from scratch plus I tried checking my OpenDNS account online, but still doesn't work. All settings on high, but nothing gets blocked.

 

I am open to other ideas. I hope I won't regret this purchase.

    Hi Jedimindtrick,

     

    1. What version of NETGEAR Genie do you have installed?

    2. What is the firmware version of the router?

    3. What are the DNS values that are indicated in the router UI?

    4. Are all devices affected (not getting filtered)?

    5. Have you tried other filtering levels (medium, low, custom)?

    6. Have you tried changing the filtering level using a different device (smartphone, tablet, another computer)?

      Hi Dexter,

       

      Thanks for quick reply. This is what I did and it worked. 

       

      1. Disable Parental Control in the Genie App and Genie Web Access

      2. Rebooted the modem and the NetGear Router

      3. Attached LAN Cable to Router from Laptop

      4. Accessed Router Through Genie Web Dashboard

      5. Enabled Parental Control at Moderate

       

      All good now! Whew!! 

       

      Lesson learned, don't set parental control through Genie App.
