unable to connect wirelessly to WNDR3400v2 with HTC Windows Phone 8x
Recently picked up a used HTC WIndows Phone 8x, and while over at a friend's house, used his WiFi to upgrade the OS to current release (8.10.14203.306). all went well, I was satisfied enough that it could work for me.
Take it home, and absolutely under no circumstances will it connect to my home router. WNDR3400v2, latest firmware update (V1.0.0.52_1.0.81). No matter what security I have set, (even NO Security) it doesn't even THINK about it for a few seconds while it tries... it just falls flat and fails *instantly* with "Can't Connect. Your phone can't connect to the WiFi network NETGEAR39."
I'm somewhat annoyed that the phone (from 2012) doesn't see the 5Ghz network, but it should at LEAST be able to connect to the 2.4Ghz network with no problems.
What are my options here?

Hi @WebDragon,
1. Are there other wireless devices (other smartphones, tablet, laptop) that are able to connect just fine with the Wi-Fi?
2. Are there other wireless devices that are able to detect the 5GHz signal?

yes, Laptop, other phones (roomie, and other friends), nexus 7 tablet, destop computers, my kindle, And yes, some devices can see both bands -- 5 & 2.4 Ghz -- just confirmed that my laptop is one of them.
It's currently working in every other regard, with all my devices, and those of visiting friends. The only exception is the HTC 8x windows phone which was just freshly upgraded a day prior

after discovering that suddenly NO devices could connect on the 2.4ghz side (possibly because of my fiddling, though I don't see how -- I reset everything back to what it was, after the windows phone was still not able to connect), I reset the router to factory settings, and then reapplied my own and now the windows phone can connect
not entirely sure what the problem was.
