Nighthawk MR60 DHCP Issues
PRODUCT: Nighthawk MR60
Firmware Version V1.1.7.134_2.0.65
I have struggled with this product for over a year now. The system is so fragile that any change such as , a new device connects, you update the firmware, you change the SSID, and you have to completely nuke your setup and start from scratch .
The issue seems to stem from a terrible implementation of DHCP which I expected a company such as Netgear to understand how DHCP works. DHCP or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol , is used to DYNAMICALLY ASSIGN IP ADDRESSES to connected devices and for the MR60 it simply does not work.
Any time a new device connects to the network, the router gets confused and brings down the rest of my endpoints. If you read other posts , the solution is to ASSIGN A STATIC IP ADDRESS to every endpoint you have. Whats the point of DHCP if I have to configure static assignments?
Ok - fine so I assigned static addresses to over 50 devices ( a process that takes hours due to how slow the interface is ) , and everything was stable for a while. But then I made the mistake of updating my firmware , and lo and behold - every device is offline again. According to advice on other posts, the "best practice" is to reset the router and start from scratch after a firmware update .... So now I'm going to have to spend hours adding and getting my devices back online .
What am I missing here ? My expectation is that I should be able to connect to my SSID and obtain an IP address every single time - is that too much to ask ?
Is there an open source firmwa

How are you updating the system? Manually or thru Auto Update?
Manually is recommended with downloading the FW files and sending to the MS web page FIRST, then sending to the MR lastly. After the system as processed the files and is back to ready. I recommend factory resetting the entire system and setting up from scratch. A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended. What devices do you have all connected?
Be sure that Apple and Android devices have any Mac Address randomizers disabled while at home:

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between MR📡 and MS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

I added 2 more devices to my network this weekend and it took down most of my network again , until I went in and manually set IP addresses on the client and then set a static ip address in the router for the device.....
My dhcp range is 100-200 and my assigned devices are all under the 100 range.

You should only set a static IP address ON the devices that's out side of the MRs DHCP IP address pool and not with in it. If you set the device to Dynamic IP address configuration, then set a IP address RESERVATION with the MRs DHCP IP address pool then.
