PS5 Remote Play vs Netgear Nighthawk Home Mesh Wifi (MK63)
Hi all, I am looking for advice, and although I note various threads already on PS Remote Play, I couldnt find anything specifically linked to Nighthawk Home mesh, or indeed very much recently posted (in 2022)
So until a couple of months ago, I really dont recall having any issue with PS5 Remote Play on my iPhone 13 struggling to connect to my PS5, however recently its become a bit of a nightmare and I consistently struggle to connect to my PS5 over WIFI.
Interestingly I can connect over 5G mobile data, but sat in my own home connected to my own Mesh wifi, nada, not getting through to the PS5.
I'm not sure if the issue is a setting relating to an update in the Netgear Nighthawk software or firmware or if its to do with things like the new Private Relay (BETA) on iPhones....
All apps, software, and firmware is up to date.
So I've turned off Private Relay (BETA) and it doesnt make much difference to wifi connection working or not, but I can connect via Mobile 5G. I did see something about changing the "preamble mode" in Advanced Wireless Settings on the Router from "Automatic" to "Short" but I dont have Automatic as an option - only "Long" and "Short" - I did change from Long to Short and hey presto this seemed to fix the issue a few weeks ago. Until this week...and back to not connecting over wifi. Changed preamble back to Short again, but still no fix.
So I'm really running out of ideas what to do, so if anyone out there has experienced similar issue and has any recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Is this the nub of the problem?
PS5 Remote Play cannot connect to wifi from MK63.
Where does the iPhone 13 come into the picture? You are streaming to it?
What about everything else? Can that get on to the MK63?

Is this where you looked?

Only a number can confirm that.
Saying "the latest". may not be by the time people read this. There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting. Finally, while many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Is this the nub of the problem? YES
PS5 Remote Play cannot connect to wifi from MK63. Kind of, My Remote Play app cannot connect to my PS5 via wifi.
Where does the iPhone 13 come into the picture? You are streaming to it? YES, as I say, using the PS Remote Play app on my iPhone
What about everything else? Can that get on to the MK63? YES, that why I've posted specifically about Remote Play, and not the Wifi Mesh in general.
Is this where you looked? YES I did, but nothing about MK63 (or similar) having these issues and most reports were years old.

I was confirming all devices are up to date as of posting. I'm not aware of any updates that are not showing as available of course.

The Modem is VirginMedia SuperHub3 - wireless is switched off on the SH3, the Home Mesh is doing all the wifi (thats in AP mode).
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting. I'm pretty sure this is an issue between Netgear, my iPhone and obviously finally, it could be the PS5/app. I suspect Netgear as it wouldnt be the first time their firmware upgrades have messed things up and for instance they already have a widely acknowledged issue with Apples Private Relay (BETA) until recently causing a connection issue to the Netgear app directly. Of course it could be the iPhone causing the problem (Private Relay....) or if PS have changed something...Finally, while many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge. I don't doubt it, but my first port of call is to see if anyone has also identified this issue, and who is a bit more tech savvy, discovered the solution.
It all feels a little challenging the first response to my first post. Not exactly feeling welcome right now.

Which bit of the first message mentions AP mode? Did I miss it?
That is a different kettle of fish.

So, you finger Netgear as the cause of a problem created by Apple?
Sadly, "being pretty sure" isn't a lot of diagnostic help. As FURRYe38 says, problems with Apple and Sony, which seem to be the suspects, is down to them.
It all feels a little challenging the first response to my first post. Not exactly feeling welcome right now.Fault finding is down to careful analysis of the symptoms, based on having as much detail as possible. That's why we throw all those boilerplate questions – like firmware version and modem/gateway details – at people who turn up here asking for help.
Your first message managed to leave out a lot of valuable details, like AP mode.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?For Sony app and PS support information, I recommend you contact them to see if they have more support and help regarding those two items they should know more about.
Also be sure to disable WiFi Private Address on the iPhone while at home on the home network.
