HELP needed please - Nighthawk XR500 Router
I set up my new Nighthawk Router yeterday for my son to be able to play his xbox as we have moved house and the wifi here is not great. Although his box seems better I have lost internet to my TV. I know this is to do with the old Virgin hub now being in Modem mode but unsure how to resolve it. When you call Virgin you are on the phone holding for hours so thought someone on here may be able to help me. I am just a mum with no real technical knowledge but the reviews for this Router were excellent so took the plunge and purchased one.
Hoping someone can help me
TY
Sue

- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerHi Sue, have you reconnected the TV to the XR500 either through ethernet (wired) or WiFi? When the Virgin Hub is in modem mode only one thing (in this case the router) can receive internet from it and everything else must be connected to the XR500. You can take the hub out of modem mode if you'd prefer to have the TV still connected to the hub. Let me know as I have Virgin also so can advise on the best setup with the Hub & XR based on your personal preference.

Hi there,
Thankyou so much for taking the time to respond. I still have the issue and now also my sons xbox is lagging constantly so unable to play it very much. I called Virgin they were pretty useless and advised me to request extra bandwidth even though I am on the top package and was promised 500mbps. Where I live I think there are some issues which apparently Virgin are working on but there never seems to be a resolution.
The modems light is purple which i know is correct and this is a picture of my set up as its easier to show you than explain as I am not very technical.
I really am at the end of my tether with this and my son is so upset too - if you could help it would be amazing.
- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerWhatever the yellow cable is in the back of the Virgin Hub needs to be connected to the back of the XR500. I assume you have gone through the XR500 setup wizard is that correct? Is the TV connected via the yellow cable or WiFi?
For lag related issues I'd suggest having a look at our optimal settings guides that will help you get setup, they should be easy to follow: http://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/folders/16000090646
You don't need extra speed, they're just trying to upsell you. If you follow the guides that will help eliminate the lag - specifically the QoS guide.
