Issue and Fix: Netgear XR500: VPN package drops
To help anyone with VPN issues with the XR500.
I noticed connection drops in my companies chat client and other connection instability using VPN connection.
My XR500 which I have set up as wifi router behind my ISP (Internet Provider) modem (with LAN cable connection) does all the Wifi and LAN, the ISP modem, just the modem.
When I used XR500 Wifi or LAN cable the VPN instability remaind, only when I plugged the LAN cable in my ISP modem the VPN line was stable.
To troubleshoot I used a simple ping command on my companies network to my laptopclient (which was connected over my companies VPN).
I noticed a +/- 30% of package drops.
The fix is to disable the QoS feature and no more package drops!
Still love the XR500, great Wifi and great setup/user interface and options. But in this Corona homework era I needed VPN most, so I hop[e this can help others troubleshooting this issue.
