Nighthawk XR1000 SLOW....SLOW...SLOW...!!!!!!!

Hello World,

I decided upgrade my old router, so i thought with the new Nighthawk XR1000. My old router is a Netgear Nighthawk X4S. Believe it or not, this new router is performing much slower than my old router.

I have a gig fiber connection and I am only getting 280mb down at best on the new router and the old router was providing me with anywhere from 600 - 700mb down.

I'm not doing any filtering or Qos as I have a firewall that takes care of that. Is there a setting or something I need to disable. If I just use this router as an access point off my network would that increase my speed.

I'm trying to work through this otherwise I'm going to return this router. Keep in mind when I am speed testing I am literally right next to the router for testing purposes.

Thanks for all responses

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

How do you have the Wifi configured on the Basic Wireless and Advanced Wireless Settings?

    What channels are you using?

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

How are you speed testing? Wired or wireless?

What devices are you using for speed testing? Wired is preferred for a 1Gb ISP service.

With wireless, depends on device design and support.

What I see with my Mac Book Pro 2018 and my XR1000 today:

Pretty good for 5Ghz AC which is top of the range for 5Ghz AC

Which settings should i be using? I'm tempted to just put the router in AP mode.

I purchased this router because the reviews all said this router could get the job done. I'm just guessing my configuration is somehow wrong.

I have a ATT Uverse routers. I'm using brand new CAT 6 cables.

I have not modified the advanced wireless settings as of yet.

You can find the clearest Wi-Fi channels in your area by simply downloading a Wi-Fi anaylser. There's a good one on the Microsoft store simply called 'Wi-Fi Analyser'.

You can try putting the XR into AP mode and re-test the speeds. Though doing this you will lose out on all the features of DumaOS, which isn't ideal.

Can you connect a device to the XR via ethernet and test the speeds there? Alternatively, can you run a Connection Benchmark by going to routerlogin.net in your browser, then to Connection Benchmark. What speeds do you see there?
