Nighthawk XR500 will connect with devices, but it will not connect to internet!

I recently got a new Nighthawk XR500 router. We did all the new user setups, and it said all the firmware was up to date. But, when we try to connect a computer or device to it, it says there is no internet, so we cannot use it. When doing the setup wizard, it says that there is internet connected, but the bandwidth test always fails. We have rise broadband, and have it setup the same way our last isp router was setup, so why is it not working? Thank you for any help.

  • According to many accounts, this is no surprise.
It's been an issues for several models coming up to this one. It also happens follows their severely out dated GUI. I'm discussed by my 7600 as well for the same issue. It just doesn't go away. Netgear seemingly refuses to fix this issue.

This is incredibly rare to happen on the XR500.

DJdubstep - do you know if your connection uses PPPoE (where you use a username and password to get online)?

If you haven't already, try rebooting your modem, then rebooting the XR500, and see if that then connects.

Worst case, give official NETGEAR support a call. They are very experienced at troubleshooting this initial Internet setup: https://www.netgear.com/support/contact.aspx
