r7000 The firmware is not compatiable with your router. Error code -2.

I am trying to move my r7000's firmware from V1.0.9.88_10.2.88 to V1.0.9.32_10.2.34 and I keep getting this error: "The firmware is not compatiable with your router. Error code -2." I have a Motorola mb8600 modem and xfinity internet with 300 down 50 up. I am switching firmwares because my wireless is extremely slow even though ethernet works fine. I have read on the forums that v1.0.9.32 is the lastest stable/functional firmware. I have only had this router (and modem and xfinity) for about a year now and I have never gotten my promised speeds (120-200 mpbs ethernet and 100-2 mpbs wireless when ~2 meters away from the router. Any solution (either to switch frameware or to fix wireless) is appreciated! Let me know if I need to be more specific about anything.

    a couple things there.

    1. The MB8600 is a modem router combo device. Is it in modem only/passthrough mode? or the netgear in AP (access point) mode?

if not, you're in a double nat. That can cause issues/slow downs.

    2. The agreed upon stable version for the R7000 is 1.0.9.42.  When you download it, make sure to extract it. Many don't extract the file.

My modem is actually a cable only modem and not a modem-router so I did not have to do anything with that BUT I tried downloading 1.0.9.42 and it appears to have installed without a hitch (unlike 1.0.9.32) so I hope my problem is fixed and will update this post if it does not. Thanks for the help.
