Using XR500 and unable to connect to shared PC with file explorer

Hello,

I have been working on this for awhile now, I am using the XR500 DumaOS 3.0 beta .120 build but I doubt that is the issue.

I am guessing it is a DNS issue somewhere but after searching the DNS issues people are having with Netgear/Duma routers I think I am more confused :)

I can ping remote PC by name and IP

nslookup returns:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>nslookup jt
Server: UnKnown
Address: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

*** No internal type for both IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses (A+AAAA) records available for jt

I am able to remote login to the remote PC, I got FTP working with port forwarding on, hhowever when I try to use file explorer to open any shared directory or drive on the remote PC I get:

I have not tried making my own hosts file, that seems a bit ancient now days and have not messed with doing a DNS server. Although after reading issues others have that might be the case.

Any help appreciated, thanks,

John

  • Hey John,

Thanks for all the information! Could you give us a better idea of your environment and where your PC and the remote PC sit in it?

      Netduma-Liam  Sorry, providing more info.

These are two home PCs. Both are running Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (x64) Build 19042.928 (20H2).

Everything is hardwired with cat8 as far as the devices concerned.

The PCs are about 6 ft apart and each are connected to the router with 10ft of cable to the XR500 which is about 2-3 feet from each PC.

The modem is right next to the XR500

      Router modifications:

      Changed router IP

Added both PCs to the address reservation table due to suggestion from beta test and the device manager on the router.

      Windows defender firewall

      Bitdefender

      No VPN

      Modem: MB8600

Router XR500 is running DumaOS V2.3.2.120

      PCs: Asus G11CD

               Digital Storm semi-self picked build

68-72 degrees, no precipitation, just kidding

Not sure what all you are looking for, just let me know if you need more.

Netduma-Liam  Oh my, I am soooo sorryy, I responded to this a while back but it must not have gotten sent or something.  Anyway I'll retype.

Ok they are 2 machines running: Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (x64) Build 19042.928 (20H2)

      Asus G11CD

      Digital Storm build

      Modem: Motorola MB8600

      Router XR500 build v2.3.2.120 beta

      Everything is hardwired, cat8

The PCs are approximately 6 feet apart  and the modem and router are on a table in between about 2-3 feet from either PC.

      Changes to router are:

      IP of router

Both PCs are set in the IP reservation table due to previous test for device manager issues on the router

DNS servers set to cloudflare and Cisco

QOS disabled per suggestion for the e-mail logs crap I have been messing with.

      IPV6 enabled with auto detect

I think that is it, holler if you need more.

      Thanks,

      John

  • Netduma-Liam  This is my 4th reply to this and it is getting very irritating retyping everything. At first I thought it was my issue but I don't think so. Trying again...

Sorry to hear that your posts were not being made!

Could you confirm if you have access to the shared driver with both PCs connected directly to the modem? This means we'll know if this is something we can adjust in DumaOS/Netgear settings to make this work!

Netduma-Liam  Unfortunately my modem only has one rj-45, so do not think it is possible.

I do have an old Netgear MR314 router I could hook up.  Would that be sufficient to test your theory?
