XR500 can't hard reset, no wifi or access

When I returned from vacation today my XR500 router was not working. I tried connecting to directly the modem and it works fine.

I tried hard resetting the router pressing it for over 15 seconds with both the power on/off, then trying the 30-30-30 with no success. The router does not reset and I am unable to connect to it via wifi or wired connection. I can't log into the routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1.

What gives? All of a sudden the router just stopped functioning. Please help!

  • Sorry to hear this!

If you unplug it from power for a couple of hours to let residual power drain, are you then able to get interface access again once you reconnect it to power?

If not, I'd suggest opening a ticket directly with NETGEAR at support.netgear.com.

    Are any lights on?

What color is the power led?

You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
    https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10

and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

Read through the guide and watch the video. It tells you about setting up the pc/laptop with a static ip address and trying to force the firmware to the router.
