Xr500 same ip address

Hello, I have some problems with my router, one of them I tried 30-30-30 factory reset and it wasn t working, another one is that I get same ip address all the time, even I restart the modem, change with another modem, also in xfinity modem setting ip address is different, and sometimes the qos not working even if is on always

That is down to the ISP.

Unless your unnamed ISP allocates you a fixed or static IP address, which isn't usual, this may or may not change.

The modem picks up the IP address. Your router than uses that. You should not need to mess around with that address.

One thing to remember, you have to start the network in the correct order.

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.

This ensures that the modem gets the WAN AP address before the router starts looking for it.

Why did you try that reset? (It is not advised on gaming routers.) What wasn't working?

What gets the same IP address? Why is it a problem?

A router usually has the same IP address because that's the way it works.

What is the modem in front of this router?

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Nighthawk Pro Gaming Routers - NETGEAR Communities

Gaming routers have their own DumaOS operating system that is nothing like the one on Netgear's standard routers.

I will move your message to the appropriate section.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

  • As above, could you explain more about why you did a reset and what IP you're expecting to change? If you're referring to your public IP that is nothing to do with the router. The XR and modem will have a different IP you access them on, that is normal. How are you determining QoS isn't working exactly?

Because I had problems with my internet, and the IP shouldn't be the same if I changed modem 3 times, I am talking about WAN IP of the router. By doing speeds tests with QoS on Always. Also after hard reset, I still had all the settings, nothing changed

What is the make and model of the modem you're using?

For QoS, first make sure your network speeds are set correctly in DumaOS. You can do this from the three-dot menu in the top right.

After that, reduce the Congestion Control sliders to 50% each, then run a speedtest and see if you're seeing 50% of your average bandwidth speeds.

If you're not, please let us know what device you're running the speedtest on.

How is this device connected to the XR500, via wired or wireless?

Are both upload and download speeds higher than the throttle you've set in Congestion control, or is it just one of them?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? Would be helpful to know this.

If the ISP modem has a built in router and also uses 192.168.1.1, the the XR router will change it's own IP address of 192.168.1.1 to avoid the conflic with the modems LAN IP address. XR will probably change to a 10.something string. This is OK as well. You can also change the modems LAN IP address string to someting different if you want the XR to use default IP address of 192.168.1.1.

This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.
