Change old email address for security codes associated to Netgear account

Months ago, I changed the email address associated to my Netgear account. The other day I was sent a 6-digit security code the OLD email address for adding a Trusted Device. I would like to change this, because I will lose access to that domain soon.

(I have an RBR50 and using the iPhone app)

    Hello dauntori ,

    Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

I understand that you would like to change the email address associated with your NETGEAR account.

Do you still require assistance with your NETGEAR account?

I sent you the requested info a few days ago. Have you already been able to forward this to support?

Would you mind sharing a bit of background? (while waiting for a response from Netgear)....

My sense is that the context of the discussion is Two Factor Authentication (2FA). Is that correct?

The goal is add another trusted device? (In addition to the iPhone)

(confession: after seeing a number of frustrated accounts about 2FA on the forum, I have thus far not enabled it. So my interest is more general interest in nature.)

You are able to login into my.netgear.com using the email address and password that gets you into the Community Forum?

These are also the credentials that open the Orbi 'app' on the iPhone, correct?

This RBR50 is registered to you and shows up on the my.netgear.com web page?

There is a Knowledge Base article describing the process to add another Trusted Device for Two Factor Authentication:

    https://kb.netgear.com/000064233/How-do-I-add-a-trusted-two-factor-authentication-2FA-device-to-my-NETGEAR-account-using-the-Nighthawk-or-Orbi-app

Did your post state that Step 8 did not happen?  i.e. there was not a Push Notification or SMS message on the primary trusted device?  (I have a sense that iPhones are not entirely compatible with SMS.)  And that the code was emailed to an account different from the email mentioned above in the context of my.netgear.com

It looks to me like one option is to just "soldier on" and press Continue until Netgear decides the new device is actually "trusted".

      Thank you for your reply.

The context of this discussion is indeed 2FA. I am not sure what the original login attempt was. I think I installed the app on a new device. So yes, adding a new trusted device I guess. After login I was asked for a security code that was sent to my OLD email that I do no longer use for my Netgear account.

i use my credentials for both the forum, the app as well as the web ui for the router.

I'm not sure if the popup notification showed but I guess it did.

You got me thinking. For now I have disabled 2FA for my account. That should prevent it from happening again.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I have the impression that 2FA authentication applies only to the Orbi 'app'.  It is not required for access to the Netgear account information, the community forum, or the Orbi web interface.

  • Months after my support call being put on hold I had to reply within 24 hours to have my case answered. I was on holiday abroad so had less access to my email. The case was automatically closed. So netgear is not replying to this forum (see above) or their ticket system. I will never ever again buy or recommend netgear.

Leaving 2fa disabled and using a long random password will keep me safe for as long as I keep using the product. Until I replace it with something else.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED.

For the record. I could try to create a new account with a new email but am hesitant because I will probably need to reset my network which will take a lot of time and effort.
