RBE771 AP mode, Orbi app says cant find
Recently purchased RBE771 with 1 satellite. Had terrible trouble setting up in AP mode as it kept wanting to go into router. I have Verizon Fois which is in the basement and the I wanted wireless access in the upper levels.
Was working in AP mode and I maybe yesterday I had a firmware update, running V10.5.19.5_2.2.37 on main and satellite. It seems to start playing havoc with my internet connection, powered off ONT, router and RBE771, did have a flashing pink (not sure what that means). It then all seemed to work.
I am unable to use the Orbi app on my iphone, it shows a screenshot of the RBE771 in the background but then it comes up saying We can't find your Orbi, Try Again.
If I go to Router Settings it shows 222 as the last digits as the ip address, it should be 153. I can log into the RBE771 in a web browser.
I tried SET UP A NEW ORBI SYSTEM in the app menu but it is going through the steps of setting it up in router mode which I do not want and it gave me so much grief last time before I got it to AP mode.
Any ideas how I can get back to seeing my RBE771 back in the ORBI app and is there a way of setting this up in AP mode from the start?

Did you configure Dynamic or Static AP mode configuration. Static is recommended with a PC and web browser:

What Iphone model and iOS do you have?
Does the Orbi app connect to the system while in router mode?
Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

The Fios router is in the basement and has Moca which I use, it is easier for Verizon to diagnose internet issues because they test to the modem, I have no use for great wireless in the basement, I dont want to rewire my house and my previous wireless point worked great in the same spot until lightning took it out.
Do you know do I get my RBE771 back into the orbi app?

I did not set Use a Dynamic DNS Service. In the web browser it is showing in AP mode, DHCP is disabled.
It is an Iphone 14 pro, IOS 18.6
I am connecting via wireless to the RBE771, the Verizon router in the basement has wireless disabled.
I do not use Mac Address randomizers.

Please review the linked information in Static IP Address Configuration for AP Mode | NETGEAR Communities
Would be good to try router mode and would be simple as well. Just put the RBRs IP address it gets into the ISP routers DMZ or IP Pass thru.
I use the Static IP address Configuration ALL the time when I have a orbi system in AP mode. It is recommended. Helps in troubleshooting and has less issues and users know where the IP address is for the RBR when needed.

I used this procedure which said Get dynamically from existing router.
It said Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not recommended)
I am now stuck in the position that the Orbi app does not see my RBE771.
I deleted the app, powered off my phone. It says it has issues connecting to the RBE771 networks I configured.
It says no devices found with Anywhere Access enabled found. What is that?
New System Setup will take me down that rat hole of configuring as a router.

with my ORbi 370 series system, similar to the 770 series, same AP mode process, mines in AP mode and Orbi app is connected to the RBR over anywhere access which had already been enabled.
RBR was first in router mode not connected to any internet services, then configured AP mode as per Static IP address for AP mode configuration using a ethernet connected PC and MS Edge browser, and as the RBR rebooted, I connected the RBRs WAN port to a RAX50v2 I currently have onliine.

FURRYe38, I did have the router set up as AP mode and I followed the instructions in not setting up a static ip address, maybe that caused the issues I am seeing now. I was able to see everything in the Orbi app and it was working well. Then I had maybe a firmware update which caused my internet to keep going down, not sure if it may have been a Verizon issue but only my internet was affected. Powering everything down, I can view the 771 in a web browser but not through the Orbi app and the internet is working.
Is there not a way for the Orbi app to discover an existing setup?
Is there a way to enable anywhere access via the web?

I'd disconnect the RBR from the ISP router, put the RBR back in router mode temporarily. See if the Orbi app will connect to the RBR while in router mode just to see if it connects. If you can get in, Look for Anywhere Access or Local Only Access. Either should work.

I am working through other issues and this is just another frustration. I am not prepared to turn off my wireless just to get the Orbi app to work correctly.
Maybe Netgear will come up with a solution to Orbi discovering existing setups.

And does the Orbi app work if you factory reset the Orbi RBR and setup from scratch?
- bd8134dudAspirant
As I said I am not resetting my 771. I dont see the point. Next firmware update which comes out will possibly remove it again from the Orbi app and I am back where I started.
It is an issue that Netgear should address.

You need to reset the system and setup from scratch.
You can open up a support ticket and let NG know about this as they may not know. You seem to be the only one having issues with this item.

As I said to FURRYe38, I don't see how resetting my 771 will help my issue. My 771 is up and running at the moment and I can login via a web browser.
If it has happened already once and I was able to the use the app and browser, when the next firmware update is released it could just cause the issues I just had.
I.E. lost internet, reboot everything and not able to use the app again.
My 771 is active on my network and working in AP mode and is my only wireless access.
I do feel the Orbi app should be able to discover an existing and working network.

If you won't do the reset, then I suggest you submit a bug report thru the app:
How do I submit a bug report or logs from the Nighthawk or Orbi app? | NETGEAR Communities
As you seem to be the only one having this issue.
Good Luck.

Thank you. Bug reported via app as suggested.
