960 Duplicate Devices

Hi All

I’m having issue with my internet currently and awaiting ISP to fix it. While waiting I check Orbi Apps and show my current Network Map.

I notice there is new additional mesh unit appear in the network connected to my router. Upon checking the new mesh unit is actually has identical product details as my current router. It means the router now appears as ‘router’ and ‘mesh’ in the same network.

Why could this happen? Can this be the reason my internet is down?

please share some experience if you have any…

thank you

Would help to see a screen capture of this puzzle.

If the ISP has confirmed a problem with their service, that would seem to indicate that it is not a fault with the customer router.

"Step One" in diagnosing ISP issues is to connect directly to the ISP device (modem, fiber ONT, whatever) with an Ethernet cable and verify that it is working.

In the "old days", most customers had a computer or laptop with an Ethernet port.  As this has become less common, many of us purchase Ethernet to USB adapters, which allow us to connect a tablet or smartphone to the ISP device. (under $15 on Amazon)

This step is often recommended when there are questions about internet "speed".  i.e. it is impossible for any device connected to a customer router to achieve greater speed than when connected directly to the ISP device.

p.s. because some of my devices have USB-A ports and some have USB-C ports, I purchased Ethernet-USB adapters of both types.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router and satellite(s) been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? This would clear this up if you haven't tried it. You might set up with a wired PC and web browser first: https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
