Can I assign a fixed IP for my KEF LSX speaker?
Hi, Jim here.
My Orbi router model is RBR350 and I own a pair of KEF LSX.
It's pain in the ass to use mesh system pair with LSX's bad software.
Maybe it's the character of MESH router to do with it or something else.
the LSX's Wi-fi connection mode(white light) always failed to connect after a while so I have to reset and reset and reset over time.
So I was thinking if I can assign a fixed IP to the speakers, or prevent the speaker from connecting to the satellite.
I also tried to connect the speaker and router itself with a physical lan cable but the router still say the speakers is connected via 2.4G wireless.
I wish I can explain better but here is my best.
I need to use the app from my phone to control the speaker which mean both devices have to be on the same network.
And the speakers is connected into the wifi system, but the app cannot connect and control the speaker
which mean they are not really in the same place?
- taped the Wifi logo on the app->the speackers turn on(in wifi mode) -> app freezed for about 1min -> message poped up saying something like "fail to switch source" etc. ->the speackers ALREADY on(in wifi mode), but it is not functional, you can connect it via airplay in Tidal but no sound will be played when the song is actually playing.
- taped the Wifi logo on the app->the speackers dont turn on-> "Powering on..." stays forever
- taped the Wifi logo on the app->the speackers dont turn on-> "Powering on..." stays forever-> taped the "..." on the top right hand corner-> back to main page -> app shows the LSX is on, but it's not.
- taped any logo other than Wifi mode on the app->the speackers turn on successfully-> change to wifi mode -> "fail to switch source"

This sounds like an excellent topic for the speaker support staff to address.
The User Manual clearly shows that the main speaker has an Ethernet port for a wired connection to the home router.
Yet there is absolutely zero information in the User Manual about how to use this Ethernet port.

To answer the specific question, Yes. The Orbi router can be configured so that any device will receive exactly the same IP address every time it is connected. This is a function of the Orbi web interface (http://orbilogin.net ) on the Advanced Tab, Setup Menu, LAN Setup. see page 61 of the RBR350 User Guide:

What should happen is that the speaker will connected automatically to the router when the Ethernet cable is connected and the smartphone app should detect that it is on the network.
