Cannot add RBS750 satellite

I have an ORBI RBR750 router with one RBS750 satellite. I am trying to add a second RBS750 satellite. The new satellite appears to sync -- turns blue -- but the network cannot find it as a satellite. I suspect that the problem is that the new (reconditioned) satellite's firmware needs to be updated to match the firmware of the router and current satellite (which are both up to date). But how can I update the firmware if it is not recognized as a satellite? I tried resetting the new satellite to factory settings, but the results are the same.

I connected the new satellite directly to the router by ethernet and it now shows as an attached device with the correct name, but it is still not recognized as a satellite. I put in the new satellite's IP address into a browser, but -- not surprisingly -- I cannot sign in to it.

Any idea for updating the firmware on the new satellite? Thanks.

You folks below solved a similar problem, but I do not have two routers to work with. Hope you have some ideas for this one.

  • Ok ya if you can get to the log in using the assigned IP address, log in should be admin and password is all.

Have the RBS FW file downloaded to the PC and unpacked from the .zip file and then once on the RBS WEB page, you can send the .chk file directly to the RBS.

Thanks! I can get an IP address on the RBR web page by attaching the satellite with an ethernet cable. I tried to  enter the IP address and got the popup window and entered admin, but did not know the right password. Sound likes it might work with <password>. I will try that, and if not, I'll follow the process in the PDF.

I have an iMac, and the router is far from the iMac (part of the reason I want the satellite), but I can work it out if I need to.  Thanks again.
