Desktop Connection Problems (Revisited) - RBK753S
I've had the Orbi 753S 3-Pack running for a few weeks and am very satisfied with the performance. My only problem, which I posted before, is that my desktop either doesn't connect, connects but no interent or drops the connection once connected on a daily basis. EVERYTHING else works flawlessly....but not my work computer!
Previous members provided some good advice. This solution below worked initially but the main problem resurfaced and is adament as ever:
Try going to orbilogin.com, Advanced tab, Advanced...Wireless Settings and set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 for both bands. I find this setting maximizes connectivity with older wireless clients.
My computer is rather old, purchased in 2013, but custom configured at the time with great hardware. It gets the job done for work. The wifi card is Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter - latest driver / no conflicts. I have used this pc in multiple environments and never had a single connection problem before installing the Orbi. I also have a Spectrum only modem so no double NAT concerns.
I am bewildered as some mornings it does connect, some after resetting the network adapter or radomly not at all. This morning it lost the connection 3 times in 30 minutes. I understand this is related to my PC but there must be something I am overlooking in preventing this ongoing pc problem with my new Orbi Network.
Thx

What happens if you disable AX mode on the RBR?
Might try replacing this adapter in the PC with something more up to date as a suggestion.
Sorry to hear your Windows Broadcom AC wireless connectivity is flaky with your Orbi AX system. The other thing you can try is modify some of the adapter's properties. There are examples here (scroll down to the "Manufacture is listed as Broadcom" section): https://support.cyberpowerpc.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014067574-Configure-the-Wireless-Adapter-Settings-for-Optimal-Performance
In particular:
- If your PC is close to the Orbi then there might be an option to only connect to 5Ghz. If your PC is further away, so it's better to rely on the greater range of 2.4Ghz, then the reverse may work better for you.
- Try different wifi channels, in case interference is making a difference.
- Try disabling AX Mode per the earlier suggestion. It would be unfortunate to have to disable AX for your fancy new AX router, but worth a try to see if it helps.
- If you still have your/an older wireless router, you can probably repurpose it as a wireless bridge. Connect your PC via ethernet to the old router and let it connect wireless to your Orbi wireless network. Not ideal but another workaround to consider.

Thank you for all this. My PC is located directly one floor above the router; problaly less than 10ft seperate them. I made some changes as suggested but this morning had a problem connecting so ordered a new wifi card. I looked up my current card and TP-Link has it listed as end of life with no recent updates. Hope the new one is compatible with my older setup.....will see soon enough. Thanks again.
Let us know how the newer adapter works.
Disabling of the AX mode is just a quick test to see if it changed anything.
