Disastrous RBR750 ping spikes - help please
Recently bought RBR750 Orbi (WiFi 6 Router AX4200) mesh with two satelites.
Coverage and speeds are great but having massive ping spikes (up to 1500ms) every 10-20 seconds which are making my online video and gaming unbearable.
- Network map attached
- Ping report attached
- No neighbours around
- Distance between router and 1st satellite: 16ft
- Distance between 1st and 2nd satellite: 32ft
- Main Orbi router WAN port connected directly to ONT FTTH box (Model: Zhone zNID-GPON 2301)
Troubleshooting tried:
- Updated firmare (V3.2.18.1_1.4.14 )
- Disabled Armor
- Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings (for 2.4 and 5GHz a/n/ac/ax): changed to 2347 and Short Preamble
Advanced Settings
- Use Router as DHCP Server - ON
- Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection - ON
- Respond to Ping on Internet Port - ON
- Disable IGMP Proxying - ON
- NAT Filtering - Open
- Disable SIP ALG - ON
- Turn UPnP On - ON
- IPv6 - Disabled
Any ideas? Seems this is a serious problem that has been persisting since RBR50.

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX (WiFi 6) products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this "general Orbi" forum. It might be helpful to determine if these ping spikes are caused by the ISP connection or the Orbi. If it is the ISP, nothing done to the Orbi will fix the problem. Perhaps some devices that are connected to the Orbi could be added to the ping program to see if they also exhibit this phenomenon.
How is the computer recording these ping responses connected?
- With ethernet to the Orbi router?
- To one of the Orbi satellites?
Which Ping Test is this?
"- Distance between router and 1st satellite: 16ft" 16 feet is too close. 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
Router and 1st satellite are connected via cable, this should not have an impact imo.
Regardless of connection of the RBS, distance is too close.
Is the RBS directly connected to the back of the RBR or is there a switch in between?
What is the quality of the LAN cable used between the RBR? CAT#?
