FAST FIBRE SIGNAL DROPPING/CLASHING WITH RBRE960

Hi, we have had the RBRE960 with two satellites for over a year now. Worked great as a separate router plus two satellites alongside a full fibre with BT router at our house. Provided excellent consistent coverage.  Moved contract to Talk Talk last week, faster speed, but the connection is intermittent on the orbi channels.  My Dell laptop, for example, frequently "cant connect to network", and my Teams calls are breaking up even though speed on Orbi app is coming in over 900mbs. I spoke with Talk Talk and they have suggested that the routers are clashing with each other so they said to set up my Orbi router as the main router connected to the white fibre box. They have provided me with a username and password to do this.  However, when I tried plugging the Orbi router into the white box, I just get purple lights.  I am presuming I need to reset the Orbi router before I do this?  My other consideration when reading through the community is to put the Orbi router into AP mode?  Again I have nearly done this lots of times but worry if i do, I won't be able to put back to router mode as I won't be able to log into the router anymore?? Any help or guidance (in laymans terms) would be greatly appreciated , as you can tell from the above, I am not the best with technology!! Thank you

What this sounds like is you have two routers (internet search for "Double NAT"), one provided by Talk Talk and the Orbi 960.  The two most common solutions for this are:

    • Remove the Talk Talk router and connect the Orbi directly to the fiber ONT (Optical Network Termination),or
    • Keep the Talk Talk router and place the Orbi into Access Point mode.

When connecting the Orbi directly to the Talk Talk ONT, you will need to go into the Orbi Setup menu and select the option, "Does your ISP require a login" -- YES. and enter the supplied user name and password.

I am not 100% convinced that the Double NAT is the problem, but

Thank you so much for your comments.

I have located the option for putting the Orbi router into AP mode within my router settings, I just wondered firstly whether my satellites will still work with the Orbi router in AP mode and secondly is it as easy to switch back to router mode if this doesn't help?

      Thanks again

Yes, and Yes.  Switching modes means:

        • In router mode, the Orbi will create a LAN that has a private IP address space that is different from the IP subnet that the ISP assigns to the Orbi router.  When the Orbi is connected directly to the ISP modem (or ONT), the router will be assigned a public IP address, and will create a LAN using 192.168.1.x
If the Orbi is assigned an IP in 192.168.1.x by the ISP router, then it will switch the LAN subnet to 10.0.0.x
This is often confusing to customers.
        • In Access Point (AP) mode, the ISP router assigns IP addresses to the Orbi, the satellites, and every device that is connected to the network.

Some ISPs use 192.168.1.x for their LAN assignments.  Others use 192.168.0.x, in which case the Orbi is free to use 192.168.1.x

Honestly, my first step would be to remove the Talk Talk router, connect directly to the fiber ONT, and enter the user name and password that support gave you.
