Help for a rookie on AX4200 RBK752

My new Orbi AX4200 RBK752 keeps losing connection to some devices, and now if i enter its IP address into a browser it just give me password reset, but no access to the router.

My Sonos speakers have now lost connection. My TV connectrs sometimes but not others, but my Mac (with is connected via ethernet cable) seems fine..  my phone is usually ok too.

But this has been going on for aweek and I've even had my ISP round to check the phone lines, which are fine.

I'm NOT tech savvy, in fact it took me ten minutes to find how to put my model number into this site, as the site seems to be set up for experts, not people like me!

hope someone helps!

thanks

Paul

  • A few more details are needed.

    1. what modem/gateway is the router connected to?

    2. what firmware is on the router and on the satellites?

    3. do wired devices drop or just wireless?

    4. does it say connected no internet or what actual error do you get?

    5. did you try a factory reset?

      1. what modem/gateway is the router connected to? its connected to a Plusnet Hub One

      2. what firmware is on the router and on the satellites? its as it came out of the box ten days ago. I tried twice to update the firmware using the app, but it failed. router is V4.6.5.14. the satellite doesn't show any firmware on the app. just a -

      3. do wired devices drop or just wireless? wireless only i think. the only wired device is my Mac and that's been fine.

      4. does it say connected no internet or what actual error do you get? no errors on the Orbi. the sky tv says its lost internet connection. The Sonos speakers were ok, then lost one (out of the five i have). When i reconnected the one, it disconnected the other four.

      5. did you try a factory reset? No not yet.

        2 things.

First is that plusnet hub one is a modem/router combo device. It causes a double nat.

A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router.
        https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1.
        1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
        2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
        3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.

the other is that if your orbi is only 10 days old, you have 90 days of free support from netgear. If your not very technilogically inclined, it might be easier for you to set it up over the phone. Once you get it setup, make a backup in case you ever need to reset. And even writing down might help since support is only free for 90 days from purchase (on new devices).

To get a hold of support. Click on "MyNetgear" at the top.
Register an account (or login) and then the device.
From there you can start the support process. Keep in mind that its only free for the first 90 days.

This sounds like your browser is caching an incorrect admin password to the orbilogin.com site.  Try using a different browser or device to access http://orbilogin.com (this should work as well as the Orbi's IP address) it should prompt you for the username ("admin") and password.
