Orbi Airprint problems with Epson ET-2650

Hi,

I was using my Epson ET-2650 with other Wifi system (Non NetGear) during the last 2 years without any issue. Recently I migrated to Orbi (RBKE963). Printer is visible during a few minutes after reboot the printer, but later is not visible for any device in the network. I use this printer for iPad and iPhone, and I need to reboot every time for print.

Any Solution?

Best Regards,

LeChuck

When you say "Printer is visible during a few minutes after reboot the printer, but later is not visible for any device in the network" do you mean that no other device (PC, Phone, etc) can see it?

Have you checked the attached devices page to see if it is actually connected to the network?   While you can do it through the app, preferential to do it via the WebUi  (log into 192.168.1.1 or whatever IP your router is assigned) and check attached devices.

While I don't have that particular Epson printer, I do have another model (ET-4750) attached wirelessly to my 960 series Orbi and can print to it from all machines.    I have found that assigning a reserved IP really helps.   If the printer bounces between router and satellite, it may get a different IP address and therefore, the devices may find it one time, but not the next.   Assigning a reserved address helps that situation.

You assign the reserved address through the Advanced Tab, Setup, LAN Setup page via the router WebUI.  I usually assign my printers in the 192.168.1.12x range - but that's just my preference.   Once assigned, be sure to hit the APPLY button.   The router will go through a reboot, and you may also need to turn the printer off and back so that it reconnects to the correct IP address.   If you have several devices you want to assign reserved addresses to - you can do multiples then hit apply once they have all be set.   I would limit the multiples to no more than 10 before hitting apply - just to insure you don't try and assign the same IP address to multiple devices - and also allows the router to lock in those addresses as well.

Once a reserved address is assigned, go back and run through the Epson setup on all of the machines you want to print from and insure you go through the Networked device process.   It should look through the network, find the printer, and do all the background stuff to set up the connection to always hit it on that particular IP address.   This step is important to do on each device so it knows how to get to the printer.

Hi, After reboot the printer, all devices in the network can detect the printer and print on it. But after a few minutes, the printer is like it's off, but it's obviously on.

I can connect to local web page of the printer, but it's offline for my Mac and it's not possible to discover it from my iPhone.

Router see printer as an attached device in any moment.

I'm going to put a static IP as you commented and I will publish my results.

Hopefully doing a reserved IP address helps.

I'm not very versed in iOS or Airprint stuff - being a Windows based guy.   I have read a bit on Airprint and understand it can have issues with networks sometimes.

Other things to think about - especially with the 960 series and how it CAN be set up.   Not sure if you are using the IoT network for the printer and regular network for your PCs/Phones/Tablets  (or some combination).   I read that Airprint wants you to be on the same network as the printer.   Whether that actually means same SSID  or just the same network IP ranges - I do not know personally.   But that's another thing to think about.

If the reserved address thing doesn't work - we may need to delve a bit more on HOW you have your network and device connections set up.

We've got a pretty versed group of folks here on the community!   I'm sure we'll figure out the right combination!

  • Yes. All your devices have to be on the same Subnet/IP Range: 192.168.X.X. Being on WiFi or Wired LAN doesn't matter.

I just switched over from an Epson to a Canon. Although Apple professes to have it, Printer Drivers, all so you don't have to go get "drivers" or whatnot. They don't and Ya do. After setting up a new printer I always go to the units support page and see if there is software for the printer. Most likely it's outdated, but works. That's a part of the Apple Ecosystem that doesn't get much attention. This also will give you features that the Apple Light drivers might not.

With my new Canon there was a software package for the Mac that covers the more recent OSs. Also it has some great tools and the stand-alone Scanning Software is pretty great. So with that all installed I head to the Printer Setup in the System Prefs. Select the Printer icon and open the selection panel. At the bottom of the Left-Hand panel there is a + –, click the plus this is what you should get:

The Gold selected one is what I use now. This is with the software I found for my printer installed. Then you get all those specifics that are pulled automatically. The Bonjour, which was a big deal and still around, will be there when you open the panel. Bonjour was suppose to be the end all be all of Universal Peripheral Communication. It didn't really catch on. The one below it that has the IJ, Ink Jet, takes a couple of minutes to show up. Now this next one is using a Static IPA. Which I do since I have three different printers. This is after clicking on the IP button.

This is the IP Panel. See the Globe at the top left. The other was "Default". I put in the IPA and it was valid. Next below in the "Protocol" drop down the first selection is "AirPrint". Select that and the settings at the bottom will auto fill.

After setting up all three this is what I got as usable printers. On the right it will give you all the info about your printer and buttons for any features. I use this printer setup since I can access the scanner from this panel and also from the Scanner Software as well as from the Print Queue Panel. I can also connect to this printer using AirPrint even on an Android device. The other two setups only give me:

Just limited features of the printer. So with this I hope it's enough to get you started and you can play with it and find out which setup works best for you. But go see if there is Software for your printer and the macOS you're running or close to it.

    P.S.

TC_in_Montanashowed you how to set a Reserved IPA in the router. Which I do so I know it's gonna be there.

  • Thanks to all, specially to TC_in_Montana . After more than 12 hours, printer is online and available for any device in my network.

      Abel,

Glad it's working now.    If you would, please mark the response that you used (assuming it is the reserved address one) as the "Accepted Solution".   That way, if someone else runs into this same issue, they can see what was done and know how to resolve it.

      Happy Orbi'ing...

After one week working fine, print is offline again from Windows and Mac devices. I can connect to the local web page of printer but it's not online from computers, iPhones and iPad.

        Any other solution?

  • Airprint visibility has often plagued me in my Orbi AXE network.  I have 3 wireless printers (2 HPs and one Canon) and often my iPhone will only show one of them.  It may change which one shows up the next time I try to print.

I looked at it again now because I could only see one of the HP printers.  I followed the instructions in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Orbi-Bonjour-and-Airprint-fix-at-least-for-me/m-p/1883437 and now I can see all 3 printers on my iPhone:

    • So to enable it go to the Orbi admin console --> advanced --> setup --> LAN setup --> in LAN TCP/IP Setup --> RIP version --> RIP_2M should be selected.

So try changing your RIP version to RIP_2M and see if that improves things for you.  For me, that setting was previously set to RIP_1.  I'm not sure why and may have been a prior attempt to fix Airprint.

      Hi Mikey94025

I already tried that solution and it did not work.

In this moment, I think there is some bug in the latest firmware of my Orbi system.

      Best Regards,
      Abel
