Orbi AX4200 RBK753 - Wifi always connect to main router and not Satellite
Hi
I just bought the Netgear Orbi AX4200 with 1 router and 2 satellites.
Using the Orbi app, the Network Map says 2x Satellites connected and online. However, I noticed all my wifi devices
seem to connect to the main router instead of the Satellite that is nearest?
Do I need to press the sync button eventhough the orbi app says 2x Satellite located?
I tried this sync option as well but no luck
Is there something i missed from the setup?
Hardware Version: RBR750
Firmware Version: v3.2.18.1_1.4.14
Thanks in advance
Problem solved.
I just hope this is not a used product sold to me from the shop.
From the browser ORBI settings (attached devices), I noticed something odd.
My default router IP address is 192.168.1.1
The addresses I am seeing from the UI as followed.
Satellite 1 IP address - 192.168.1.5
Satellite 2 IP address - 192.168.0.43 <----- different subnet!
How did this device end up with different subnet? is this a glitch?
To solve this problem, i have to factory reset with a pin and now I am getting the
correct subnet IP 192.168.1.7 from DHCP

No, it's up to wifi devices to pick and choose where they connect too. Orbi only provides the platform.
Some minor adjustments that you can try:
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
This may help wifi devices connect to RBS vs RBR.

Ya thats odd. I'd press the reset button in back of that 1 RBS and re-add it to the RBR. I would do this while in the same room as the RBR with the 1 RBS. Press the sync button on the RBS then RBR. Check the status on the RBRs web page and the IP address, should get a .1 something address...

Thanks FURRYe38.
Factory reset with a pin I mean.
Reboot device wont work in my case.
- titaniumrx8ApprenticeThe satellites have MAC addresses. When I initially set up the satellites they grabbed 192.168.1.2 and. 3
Then I added the. 2 and .3 addresses to the MAC reservation table so they'd never get bumped elsewhere.Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves tine if a reset is needed.
