Orbi RBR 750 very unstable connections with things connected through satellite
I started noticing that i was getting the correct ping speeds in some parts of the apartment and horrible in others. My apartment is about 1600 sq ft with drywall, and I use one satellite to go along with the router about 30 ft of distance between each. I noticed that when something is connected to the router, the speed is normal, and the satellite is super faulty. Speedtest shows 4 ping on router and constant fluctuation in the hundreds from the satellite. I have tried different satellites as I have extras from my old Orbi (the same model router fell and broke from the old one). I am certain there is an issue with each satellite so i conclude there might be an issue with the mesh communication of the router. Would someone be able to help me figure this out? I’m almost at the point of just buying some other system.
Try setting manual channel 1 on 2.4Ghz and 40 channel on 5Ghz.
Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Yes, the default connection between RBR750 router and RBS750 satellite is a 5GHz WiFi radio link. WiFi is really sensitive to distance and obstacles that the signal passes through, especially metal and very dense materials such as brick and concrete. Often, air conditioning duct work is hidden inside walls. (I once encountered a brick chimney inside a house that "cast a WiFi shadow" and made WiFi connections unreliable.)
Because WiFi units are portable, it is often a good idea to move them around a bit to see if performance changes with position.
What device(s) are being used to measure performance?
Aside from the Speed Test report, what are the symptoms of horrible performance?
- Iggy_MarleyAspirantI use speedtest for testing. As far as the bad performance anything that is connected to my router has excellent and consistent download, upload and ping speeds. While the satellite always lost some download and upload speeds it was always consistent and the pings were low. Now i get very high and fluctuating ping speeds and the downloads and uploads are super volatile. Sometimes speedtest will say there is no connection and streaming can be a slog. This has all happened within the last week to ten days and have tried everything i know
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?- Iggy_MarleyAspirant
I am not home right now so I can't give you the modem but it is a fairly recent Motorola Modem. I have 1 gig up and down through fiber. I am pretty certain the modem is not the problem as I tested the speed through a wire connection. The router is also working fine. Remember the problem is with things connected to the satellite (both wired and wireless).
I live in a building that has three apartments per floor so I have two neighbors on my floor, three neighbors below and three neighbors above. Again, this has never been an issue in 10+ years living in the building and at least 5 years using Orbi.
As far as channel configurations I wouldn't know what to tell you, that is above my knowledge on this subject. If this were relevant to know please point me in the direction of how to identify these things.
What's the building materials of this building? Concrete and steel?
To find what channels the RBR is using , you can view the configuration on the Basic Tab on the RBRs web page if you log into the router with a PC and web browser. Also FW version on the RBR and RBS will be seen here as well.
Might ask a friend or family member to help you out with this to gather information and help troubleshoot this.
- Iggy_MarleyAspirantSo the firmware cersion is V7.2.631_5.0.24
2.4 ghz channel is in auto
5 ghz channel is 48
The modem is a nokia g-2425g-b
As said in another post i have two neighbors on my floor, 3 below and 3 above but the building structure is solid concrete.
Look forward to your feedback!Try setting manual channel 1 on 2.4Ghz and 40 channel on 5Ghz.
