Orbi RBR850 + Orbi RBS850 Limited Connection due to DNS
Hi Community Experts
I have had critical stability issues with my network (1 x RBR850 and 2 x RBS850 in a hardwired star configuration through 1GB network switch) since around january 2022. It was working great for version 4.6.3.9, but for all following upgrades it has been unstable. I can see some periodic DNS timeouts and restoring of connectivity for my windows 10 home and pro pc's of different types.
I have tried everything from factory reset, manual rollback to version 4.6.3.9, by the way which worked great again, until overriden by automatic firmware updates. I have also checked the recommended firmware recommended for my pc's are installed.
I have spent quite an amount of money on this network and I think it's absolutely horrific that I have now spent 4 month and still have these issues.
Please help anyone? Or maybe just to prevent an override of the manual installed firmware which I know is stable.
Thank you.
Regards Kim

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network. What happens if you roll back to v4.6.3.9 now? I believe NG has turned off auto updates...

Firmware.
ISP Modem.
I will try to follow your guide, I have not done these steps after the last update. I hope it works and I will get back to you on this thread. However if not I will rollback to the old version and follow your guidelines for restart and cross my fingers that it will not override the firmware.
Of course it would be best to have the updates working 🙂
Thanks
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopTry option #2 first...
Theres nothing past v4.6.8.2.
