Orbo AX6000 Mesh System - 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Port

Hi all, I'm considering purchasing an Orbi AX6000 mesh system.  For practical reasons however, I would like to know whether I need to connect my router / modem into the 2.5 Gbps WAN port to achieve internet connectivity, or can I simply use one of the spare Gigabit LAN ports?  I intend on using the 2.5 Gbps WAN port to connect to a 2.5 Gbps Managed switch which is connected to my server and various other high-bandwidth devices.  My router / modem however, can only out-put Gigabit speeds / ~100mbps internet speeds.

Thanks in advance!

  • All Netgear routers (Nighthawk and Orbi) are designed to have the WAN (yellow) port connected to the internet source.  This 860 model appears to have been designed specifically for those customers who have upgraded to very high speed ISP connections. (hence the 10G Ethernet port which is capable of 10, 5, 2.5, and 1 gigabit connections).

    Sorry.

Already the 850 and 840 model does support a 2.5 GbE WAN port. All 860, 850, and 840 allow using an existing CPE, permitting it does support dynamic LACP,  WAN aggregation (10 Gbps + 1 Gbps, LACP-IEEE802.3ad on the 860, and 2.5 Gbps + 1 Gbps, LACP-IEEE802.3ad on the 850/840).

No way for connecting faster LAN devices than GbE. So sorry, yes, indeed.

  • The LAN ports on the 8 series Orbis are limited to 1Gb max connection rates, so you'll never see anything much past 900Mpbs on the LAN side. If you have 2.5Gb ISP speeds and want to see those speeds on the LAN side, you'll need a Orbi 9 series system which do have 2.5Gb Rated LAN ports.
