Possible to backaul wirelessly but disable radio?

RBR750 with 2x RBS750, AP Mode

 

Is it possible to disable the radio/transmit on a node by node basis but still have wireless backhaul?

 

I need to get a (wired) POE device to my network in a location that I cannot get an Ethernet cable to. I have a spare RBS750 but I don't really want to add it in to the mesh because I think that would over-provision the network. However, if I could add it as a node, backhaul wirelessly, but then disable its radio / wifi network broadcast that might work?

I can't see anything in the control panel that would enable this, other than reducing transmit power, and that seems to affect the whole mesh, as opposed to specific nodes.

 

Failing that, is there a Netgear product that could perform this function? i.e., connect to the network wirelessly and has a 1000 Ethernet port, but NOT act as a repeated/extender/AP etc.? I've seen some from non-name brands that might be fine, but not yet found a Netgear one.

    In terms of the device, I can use a power injector for the 'P' part, but I still need network access for the 'E' part... so an Ethernet port on *something* - I was hoping I could use the (now) spare RDS for it but without re-introducing it as a mesh node.

     

    It transpires that 'wireless bridge mode' is the tech required to achieve this... and the RBS750 seemingly doesn't support it.

     

    Netgear (and assorted other manufacturers) do have devices for this specific purpose.

  • Why do you think that would "over provision" your network?

    My network has to much coverage in that I should probably disable one of my satellites based on size, but it works fine. 

     

    I'm a little curious how you're planning on doing this. Satellites---->to POE device? 

    A little more details about your setup (like distance/coverage/different building?) etc might help us to give you better options.

        A simple wireless extender would work as well. You'd just disable the ssid on it. 

        It still needs the wireless enabled for the backhaul but you could set that up yourself. 

        Got any of those sitting around? 

        Or you could go MoCa adapters or powerline adapters to get ethernet to where you're trying to.
