RBK853 Alternative to OrbiLogin.com

For anyone having trouble accessing their Orbi Router user interface using the ORBILOGIN.COM, here is a solution.

Use ROUTERLOGIN.NET instead.

I was in a "do-loop" trying to use ORBILOGIN.COM in that it kept taking me to a password reset.  I did not need a password reset.  I simply needed to access the router at a more detailed level than the Orbi App on my iPhone allows.

One time, I was able to access the router using ORBILOGIN.COM.  But, part way through my work, the software jumped back into the password reset "do-loop" for no reason...and then I was stuck.  I have a Mac.  I tried Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.  I also tried jumping into a Windows shell via Parallels and use Edge.  I even performed a shock reset on the router (hold reset button for 30sec, then remove power while still holding the reset button for another 30sec, then plug back into power while still holding the reset button for another 30 sec [yes, continously holding the reset button the entire 90sec]).  No luck.  Ready to wave white flag.

Then, I stumbled upon the ROUTERLOGIN.NET option while exploring the Nighthawk support information.  I gave it a try.  It provided me with the exact same user interface as ORBILOGIN.COM, without the annoying password reset "do-loop".  I was able to finish my detailed work, as well as subsequent easy logins and logouts without issue.

Don't get me wrong, I do use the Orbi App.  However the Orbi App doesn't give you all the access you need, for example if you want to set up the VPN.

Wanted to share in case others find themselves in the same boat.

1.) Orbi Router Firmware is V4.6.3.16_2.0.51.

2.). Spectrum provided the Modem.  Why is model number and mfr of interest?

3.). Glad 192.168.1.1 works for others.  It did not work for me.  Put me into the password "do-loop" on all the previously mentioned browsers.

4.). Using Mac Safari to successfully access as previously described.

      Cheers!

Years ago, Netgear secured an SSL Certificate for a bunch of internet domain names:

    • routerlogin.com
    • routerlogin.net
    • orbilogin.com
    • orbilogin.net
    • and a couple more that I cannot remember*

Netgear then modified the DNS resolution software in the router to watch for those specific domain names and return the IP address of the router.  When a user enters one of those domain names in a web browser, the DNS request does not go out the internet to one of the DNS sites. (How could it?  There are thousands of routers claiming to be routerlogin.com. The DNS resolvers do not know which of them - if any - is actually routerlogin.com)  Instead, the web browser hears, "Lucky you.  That URL is right here at <IP address>".

A more direct way to get to the router web interface is to go directly to the 'gateway' IP address, which is usually 192.168.1.1.

*That SSL certificate has since expired and not been renewed.  Netgear now includes a self-signed SSL certificate in each router, which web browsers complain bitterly about.  (Not Secure!!! Go Back!!!)

Another possible explanation is that your browser had cached and was reusing an older and incorrect username and password for Orbi.  That's why you got the password reset page everytime you went to orbilogin.com.  Since the cache is based on the URL, switching to routerlogin.net bypassed the browser's incorrect username and password.  We usually ask customers to try a different browser or device if seeing the password reset everytime they go to orbilogin.com.

Yep! I was on phone with Netgear help desk and we repeatedly cleared cache. Still no success…but good idea!
