RBK863S IPv4 assignment

My Orbi RBK863S was first installed as a router, but later changed to an Access Point to reduce conflict with my AT&T gateway/router. However, my PC is still getting assigned 10.x.x.x IPv4 addresses and I have no internet access. Even if I did get internet access, being on a local area network other than 192.168. 1.x causes a problem with apps and file sharing. I have tried so many things it would be too daunting to explain. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Thanks to all who responded. Here is an update.

It appears the culprit for my not getting internet access on my Ethernet connection had to do with my VPN (Nord). When I changed the setting to NOT launch on startup, My PC was given a 192.168.1.X  local IP address. Not sure I'm out of the woods yet and will need a few more reboots to feel confident. Thanks again.

You didn't have the BGW in passthrough mode or the orbi's address in the bgw's DMZ did you?

  • Thanks very much for your quick response.

Seems like I've done all those thinks, but maybe not in that order. I'll give it try and let you know.

what happens when you turn everything off. Power up the AT&T. Then power up the Orbi. Then power up the PC.  Sometimes the DHCP process on routers simply gives devices "what they ask for". If the PC was using a 10.x.x.x address and asked to renew it, the AT&T might say, "fine."

Completely restarting can clear things out.
