RBR750 goes to magenta light every hour for 5minutes...

RBR750 bought last November goes offline, shows magenta light, goes back to working normal again in about 5minutes.  This started a few weeks ago, potentially around the same time firmware was updated to current. I blamed cable company, they dispatched a tech, he ran new orange cable line from house to tap, replaced the modem, re-crimped the coax, checked with his meter, and claimed it's all prefect with a strong signal...

This drop and restart with magenta light routine started with a frequency of a couple times per day but is now happening nearly every hour.

I've power cycled it many times and rebooted it many times using orbi app over the past few weeks.  I also changed the room and outlet it was plugged into.

Are the factory 12V 2.5ma power supplies known to start failing?

Are the internals in the 750's known to start failing?

Was this latest firmware in April bad?

I've read much of the past troubleshooting guides on the forum but nothing has worked yet.  To make matters worse, it won't allow me to login and backup the configuration, before resorting to the hard reset method using paperclip!  It asks me for my two security questions, which are one word easy answers (and saved in browser password file), it says they are incorrect!  I tried different Firefox, Brave, and Chrome browsers, none of them recognize the login or security questions.  This is probably a separate issue for another post so don't want it to distract from the main "drop & restart" issue.

I'll take any and all suggestions as to what else to try.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Hi Furrye38, thanks for the quick response.

      Firmware is 7.2.6.31

      Spectrum Internet 500/20 plan.

Spectrum Modem reads: EN2251 Docsis 3.1 Hitron Technologies HWV:1D PC15

New Cat6 RJ45 - it's also been swapped during troubleshooting.

      Home is 1500sqft tri level

Using 2 RBS750 Satellites with approx 20-25' distance (Router located on middle floor)

I did read in previous guides about that best practices method of starting things and did so a few times.  The only devices I cannot completely turn off of course are IOT things like smart oven, washer, etc.  Desktop and Laptop were off and started last when internet was re-established.

Seen users with this version experiencing issues since it was released. May need to downgrade to v.21.

If the RBR front LED is turning PINK, usually means the ISP modem is not giving the RBR good services. I'd ask the ISP to check the signal line up to the modem to ensure it's working well. Have them look at logs during the time frames when you see the front LED on the RBR go pink to see if anything stands out from the modem.

For this size of home, having the RBR and two RBS deployed and too close to each other maybe too much.

I recommend that you turn OFF one RBS. Also might reduce the power on the RBR to 50% as well. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Would only need to power off and back on the ISP modem, RBR and RBS.
