RBS850 not showing on network map - guest wifi not connecting

i have the ORBI RBR850 with 2 RBS850 satellites, one is connected by ethernet cat-5  through a Frontier modem/router.  it was working perfectly until i switched from Xfinity cable to Frontier fiber optic.  Now the satellite connected through ethernet (through the Frontier modem/router) is not showing up on the network map.  BUT the Wifi IS working, however, the Guest WiFi is not working near it.  Guest Wifi does work near the router.

i have upgraded the firmware on all three (router and 2 satellites) V7.2.6.21_5.0.20

i would really like to get the guest wifi working because it is in a separate building on my property (AirBnb).  the cat-5 cable runs underground.

The Frontier modem/router was provided by the tech so that i can receive troubleshooting service if needed. Previously, with Xfinity, i used my own modem (not modem/router combination) and switch,  going into the RBR850 and one satellite.  the other satellite  is connected by signal.

Could this be resolved by eliminating the Frontier modem/router and just going into the switch?  Any help greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

  • Yes, do not connect the Orbi router LAN port to the Frontier device and one of the satellites to the Frontier device.

Go back to using the switch to connect the Orbi router and Orbi satellite.

When the Orbi satellite is connected to the Frontier device, it will get confused because the Frontier creates one LAN subnet and the Orbi creates a different LAN subnet.

Thanks so much for your reply. I tried to connect directly from the Frontier Optical Network Terminal (ONT) where the fiber internet enters my home to power the fiber network, into the switch, but I don’t get an internet connection. Do I need to have a modem in between? Can I accomplish this myself or do I need to engage Frontier tech support? Thanks again

ONT --> Orbi router --> switch --> satellite & other devices.

The switch cannot connect directly to the ONT.
